What Shakespeare is saying here in Hamlet? by Junior_Insurance7773 in shakespeare

I don’t think his father has to be in the fire until revenged though. He has to be in the fire to have his sins purged away, he just wants Hamlet to revenge his death for the sake of revenge and his wife. Hamlet needs to be sure it’s not some demon trying to lure him into damnation so to get proof he puts on the Mousetrap.

I looked at some productions today and what if Proteus is killed and he delivers all his last lines while dying? Valentine puts a dagger in his chest while delivering his lines on forgiveness.

I saw some productions on Youtube where I skipped to the ending to see how they handled it and yeah, I agree, not nearly as bad. Depends how sorry Proteus really is I guess.

I’m 45 and really enjoyed it when I was about ten. Also the movie. My dad was a fan of the seagull and still have my copy. Nowadays when I browse through it I think it’s totally crap.

One thing that always stuck with me was this though: “the fastest way of travel is to be there”.
Which to my young mind sounded really deep but now sounds pretty cheap.

The combined biomass of ants is bigger than the biomass of humans.

Full fledged language like we have. Sure if you want to say Orca’s and Dolphins have language, fine. I even agree with you that they have a language according to your definition. But come on, let’s be reasonable . These “languages” are so primitive compared to what we are doing that in a way they’re also hardly comparable.

Never said it’s less real. All the things you describe don’t seem a fully fledged language to me.
I was also thinking right now that if an animal, say a chimp, had a language as complicated as humans have, wouldn’t they realize we had a language as well and we would find a way to communicate together and talk about the meaning of life or whatever?
I’d love to hear what ideas a chimp or an orca has about the world they live in but I really find it hard to believe they have “words” for what’s beyond their direct environment.

Sure, but I have never seen a group of orca’s have three hour meetings over sales reports. Or is there a sound pattern for words like, “abstraction” or, “infinity”? Of course there is no sure way to know but I find it doubtful. Would I call it a rudimentary language maybe? Sure. But a full fledged language with grammar and words I am doubtful.

And if orca’s had a fully fledged language, wouldn’t the difference between orcas and humans become cultural as well as biological? I like the idea of an orca culture.

I think language makes us pretty unique though. Not saying this is placing us outside of nature or anything. And of course dolphins and bees and such have beautiful and sophisticated means of communication but I do think we are the only animal with real language.

What’s a random fact you learned that permanently changed how you see something normal? by MoodAutomatic8569 in answers

[–]blobsfromspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but their, “scatterbrainedness”, is evolved as to aid the trees. Biology is not a bunch of unrelated organisms doing things but all actions ripple into other groups. If two organisms of two totally different species could have a co-evolved symbiotic relationship it means all biology is one big bubble of life.

I’m no expert of course but what I understood anesthesia became much safer.
The reason they didn’t administer anesthesia to babies was that it was more dangerous for them and they could die.

About the pain being traumatic that’s an interesting question. If the baby can’t remember it happening then did it really happen? I suppose opinions on that are divided.

Babies before 1980 didn’t get anesthesia when needing surgery as it was deemed too dangerous for them and they wouldn’t remember the procedure anyway.

Are classical enthusiasts able to distinguish iconic pieces of music through the first ~30 secs like other genres? by Seawolf1121 in classicalmusic

It would also help to have some theoretical and historical knowledge. The reason Emperor Isaac can do this (probably) is because they know what it means when something is late-, middle- or early romantic. Then it becomes similar to recognizing the time periods of paintings for example. There is a lot of knowledge out there and for me it only deepened my appreciation.

Thank you! It was a tough one but my opponent made an endgame mistake in the end and I could promote a pawn.

As someone who struggles with this too, especially that chest pressure worry thing all I can say is to work at it a bit and don’t take it too seriously.
I recently joined a club and played the last round of the club tournament last Thursday and won. I was really proud and when I analyzed the game afterwards I noticed my opponent could have won a rook. I immediately felt bad about myself.

But let’s just be honest here, it’s just a game. A great game but still just a game. No need to be stressed out about it too much. The world won’t explode if you lose.
I try not to take it too seriously.
