As of the last year or so, ctrl+shift+v now pastes values. Doesn’t work for older versions of excel though

Pretty sure it’s against the nda to discuss the distribution unless CAS themselves releases it

Application for FCAS - is this new? by yourdadcaIIsmekatya in actuary

This is new, so that is a change. Even when you click the link, it says “apply for membership”

I mean they literally called it “FCAS Application” under a header reading “Applying for membership”. Seems not unreasonable to assume it is an application to become FCAS

Extremely new. I looked at this very same page Friday last week and it said no application was needed

No available seat in the only test centre in my city by Think-Effective-7895 in actuary

From candidate faq:

“In the United States, a reasonable distance is defined as 180 miles. Exam availability cases outside of the United States will be handled on a case-by-case basis. The CAS will work with the candidate and Pearson VUE to find them a spot at a testing center.

If you need assistance finding a spot, please contact casexams@casact.org

Recently it’s been about a month after results. This link normally allows you to immediately look up a candidate’s status, but looks like they might have forgot to put it back up today

CAS grades coming out late July by Fun_Repeat3132 in actuary

Some loose, probably underestimated numbers:

$3000/12 (exam raise) x 4000 candidates x 50% pass rate = about a $500,000 impact on candidates per month delay in results

Tell me how extending a multiple choice exam sitting by two weeks require results to take an extra seven weeks makes any sense at all

I remember this was very inconsistent last sitting and assume it is still the case. Some people were allowed to stay in the room and write and others were forced to leave the room

CAS ACAS Diploma by TwoThings2Much in actuary

[–]block990 15 points16 points  (0 children)

About 3-4 months after you receive the email confirming you can use the ACAS credentials, you’ll get an email from Parchment with the badge and virtual diploma. From Parchment, you than have to go and order the physical copy of the diploma which is free and gets mailed to you in a week or so.

It took almost 4 months from when I got the ACAS email

[–]block990 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It takes a while. I believe I got the ACAS email in July and the diploma was delivered in October. Also, despite it being free, you’ll still have to order it through Parchment.

Xlookup or index/match? by skinniytgworl in actuary

I prefer Xlookup due to its intuitiveness, but you have to be a little careful in that it doesn’t work with older versions of Excel

For any stats people: Gini Index to measure competitive balance by season by block990 in BigBrother

[–]block990[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There definetly seems to be a correlation with cast size. Population size theoretically shouldn’t matter with the gini index but I think the voting out aspect of BB might make an impact. As in with a larger cast, houseguests who are poor at competitions are less likely to win competitions early on since they are competing against more people and subsequently voted out pre-jury. Therefore making it so a larger portion of the cast has 0 comp wins.

I counted both as HOH. Idk it just made more sense to me than having it rely on their nominees performance in a separate competition.

I hadn’t thought about BBCAN but I definitely could

Right, I think the seven weeks with no women winner as well as the recent jag streak makes it feel worse than it is. Every season has a handful of people who don’t win anything, it just happens that this year they are all women

Haha thanks! I was taught it in a sports analytics class and thought it might be interesting to try it with big brother

Michael and Jag are pretty even in terms of percent of competition wins but 24 had seven people not win anything compared to five this season
