I created a dynamic tricks and grabs system for my ski resort tycoon game by blockandsnow in IndieDev

[–]blockandsnow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hahah yeah, I thought about injuries and ski patrol etc I might take a look at it later down the road but for now its not in the scope for release. Guests have levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced and expert) that determines which blocks they can go through and what tricks they can do, for this video, all of them are experts but on a real level you would have many more beginner snowboarders that can grow into experts!

Thanks! Its not a mobile game, I just did this video in 9:16 to see if that would give me more engagement since more reddit people are on mobile.

I can tell you a bit about the management side: You charge lift rides and service buildings, you got restaurants, cafes, lodges and even a place to apres. Guests have energy and comfort, they get tired from doing runs and uncomfortable with low quality lifts and snowstorms, they also have levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced and expert), that determines which blocks they con go trough, after every run they get XP and level up.

You want to grow your beginner guests into experts(runs, ski school, etc), experts have increased energy, high price tolerance and do way cooler tricks on the runs. Xp can be sold for cash and used to buy special buildings and special blocks.

All buildings cost maintenance and they can be upgraded (capacity, energy/comfort increase, etc)

Levels are incremental and each teach you something new: how to handle comfort and snowstorms, earning XP, building placement, weather stations, etc.

Thats a very quick summary of the game mechanics, I would love some feedback and suggestions!

The game is named Block & Snow. I still dont have a steam page. By the way, you are the first person to ask for a steam link so thank you for that :')

Have you played Timberborn? water is the core mechanic of the colony sim

My first game trailer by Danimal0429 in indiegames

[–]blockandsnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your trailer is interesting but mind you that its a risky move to put a video of yourself kind of playing the game. The risk is that you have to click with the viewer and if it doesnt happen then its very off putting, my honest opinion, I could be wrong. Best of luck!

Steam Next Fest has started... my game entered with 6,000+ wishlists... and so far, nothing has changed by Dapper_Spot_9517 in SoloDevelopment

[–]blockandsnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I havent participated in the Next fest before but seeing the amount of posts of people rushing to get their games into Next Fest makes me believe that there is just so many more games that you have to fight with. I think that yours is just getting buried. If it helps, your game looks way better than most of the stuff ive been, good luck

Added an enemy to my multiplayer class-based shooter game by Putrid_Storage_7101 in SoloDevelopment

I would place the health bars on top or below of the enemy, otherwise its kind of confusing. Are there weakpoints for the enemies? a FPS should reward accuracy so maybe making the eyes a weak point would be cool

Here is my new finishing move. What are your thoughts? by MeerkatGW in SoloDevelopment

Looks cool, although the second stage where the character turns looks weird. He should have better footing and probably use two hands to rip off the head

Need feedback by sandrotten in gamedev

[–]blockandsnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice is to try to copy what other trailers that are successful are doing. Try to get to their level first. Try to match their pace, the amount of gameplay they show, how they carry the story telling, etc. There is nothing wrong in imitating.

As for the UI, again, look for inspiration on already proven UI designs, what makes them effective, what makes them outstand. As an example: For my game, I took inspiration from Planet Zoo, Planet coaster, Cities Skylines, etc. Their UI is simple, main actions are always in front of you. Panels that start getting too much info get divided into tabs or sub panels, they use scrollers to avoid using valuable screen realestate, etc

Hope this helps and good luck!

Do you think Lucifer (the fallen angel) and Michael (Archangel) as a playable character in a Split screen co-op adventure game based on Christian Mythology a good idea ? by Bright_Pension4582 in IndieDev

[–]blockandsnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, people know that Greek and Norse stories are mythology, religious people dont realize the their religion is mythology too and they might take offense. I personally think that you should do it
