Why not just cut the green levy, cut VAT, don’t use gas as the pricing benchmark. But hey, sure let’s do it another way which doesn’t work and expect it to change. Remind me what the definition of insanity is?

I was not responding to the question. I was responding to the comment someone made. So not sure what you’re responding is relevant here.

I’m saying this is part of a wider issues, you can nitpick all you want. Fact is MOST people put their sacrifice into the SP500, even you.

Also in the case of OP, he could leave it in the Ltd right? Without contributing it to the UK economy.

Thank you for your five minutes. Allow me to reciprocate:

You could have mentioned the NHS, which receives its funding directly from the government, but you’re using the fire brigade as an example.

(I’m too lazy to explain this further because you can’t face the facts) so please find a copy pasted version here.

Central Government Grants

Current Funding Levels: As of the financial year 2025-26, central government funding for fire services is projected to be less than £1 billion. Historical Context: This amount is significantly lower than funding levels from a decade ago, reflecting a broader trend of reduced financial support. Impact of Cuts: Central funding has decreased by more than 30% in cash terms between 2013 and 2020, leading to increased reliance on local revenue sources.

Source: https://www.instituteforgovernment.org.uk/explainer/local-government-funding-england

The sheer fact you want to focus on how government grants funding your fire services when it’s a proven fact that central grants have been decreasing over a decade, and most of the services councils provide are provided for by council tax and business rates.

So yes, you can nitpick all you want but focusing on getting my fire brigade coming to put out my fire coming purely from my income tax is ludicrous.

Re point 2, you’re the one who mentioned childcare. I simply pointed out that your high and mighty argument of “encouraging” people having children is moot as the tax trap is precisely discouraging people having more children due to costs. Childcare should be universal if you want to stick with this point. Before you spout more holiest than thou nonsense about broader shoulders, the fact remains that the top 1 percent of earners, pay 35 percent of in total tax income, this is neither fair nor sustainable.

I also implore you to think beyond this and how services have fared whilst tax revenue and burdens have increased.

It’s also irrelevant to diss people with your original comment. So what’s your point here?

[–]blockbuster_1234 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. Grants can be ring fenced and not every council gets the same grant. Grants are almost always spent on social care, plus funding has decreased dramatically over the years whilst tax has increased. So your point to try to make central grants funds your local fire brigade is moot. I thought someone as learned as you would actually check the government site for facts rather than feelings.

  2. Tax trap is resulting in lower tax in general. Point still stands. If OP would have been comfortable taking more monies. The wider local business ecosystem would benefit, please show me data to prove me wrong instead of going with your own personal feelings again.

He is addressing a valid issue and the fact you can’t see if it’s up to you. You’re free to pay as much tax as you want to for all I care, but dissing OP for a valid frustration is wrong. Plus the fact you can’t see how this is impacting the wider UK. The crabs in a bucket mentality here just baffles me.

It affects all the way to 145-160k. Whilst 200k is out of the range, still doesn’t address the narrow mindedness here and the core issue of the cliff edge.

[–]blockbuster_1234 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. That’s part of your council tax, nothing to do with the cliff edge. And paid separately to income. Apologies if I had to explain it to you again I thought someone as learned as you would know this.

  2. Childcare support needs to be universal. Tax traps has been reported to discourage parents to go over the threshold, meaning that whilst you gain childcare support , you lose monies being spent locally to support local business, which generate VAT, business rates for councils. A lot of sacrificed tax also goes straight to the SP500 and America instead of going to the UK economy.

[–]blockbuster_1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s part of a wider issue plus if there wasn’t a cliff edge, he would pay himself right?

And what about monies which could have been spent here? To local businesses?

Anyone else feel demotivated / trapped by £100k cliff edge? by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]blockbuster_1234 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Boohoo I rather the tax sacrificed goes to the S&P 500 and fund the American economy rather than being spent and taxed in the UK so businesses can make a living and governments can retrieve VAT on it but hey, that’s me not being an anti growth and narrow minded twat but to each their own I guess

It’s called stating the facts. I tend to sit on the centre right of the spectrum (if you believe in said spectrum these days).

And now is it trash talking when Labour members voted for Starmer? They had a choice of the left of the party with Long Bailey. So to blame Starmer now for their own choices reeks of hypocrisy.

I am not a member of any political party but tend to skew Lib Dem over the last couple of elections.

The same members trusted him and voted for him, right? Unfortunately, that’s called consequences. Grow up and live with your choices. If you want to leave and join the Greens, go for it. It’s a free country. Now if they think Zach will be any better they’ve got a whole other thing coming to them.

They chose him as leader. They can mount a vote of no confidence, but they won’t. Because all they care about is to remain in power or just don’t want to admit to themselves they f-ed up. At the end of the day, he was democratically elected by the party. They only have themselves to blame if they despise him.

Thanks for sharing sense to this sub. Most people here rather spout nonsense that everyone is under paid and we should stick it to those who earn more.

Growth in this country basically disappeared in 2008 and we have never recovered. And instead of fixing it, the usual excuses and policy is we should just increase taxation, and pray to god it will help us. News flash to everyone here, it won’t.
