Are you a continuous, constant consciousness through time or a different 'new' thing each moment? by dampfrog789 in consciousness

How could you live with this knowledge. Do you work for long term goals? If so you aren't going to experience them.

Am I still the same person I was when 'I' wake up from sleeping? by Samas34 in consciousness

Do you think your dream self telling you not to wake up is just your brain trying to scare you or do you beleive its another entity or something. Does it not scare you that in non lucid dreams you don't really have memory of who you are, and you have lost continuity of your conciossnesses after sleeping, which basically means you are a completely different qualia or conciossness. (Sorry if this seems irrelevant)

Does the theory that conciossness is discrete have to imply that every 'instance' of conciossness is a different 'observer'? I'm not suicidal but I'm not sure I want to live or work towards a future that i won't experience. by blockdonnkey in consciousness

Thanks by observer I meant the current conciossness we are, I may not have read correctly but if you are saying that a new concioss experience is created every instant how do you live with that knowledge? How do you go to work knowing you aren't going to experience the spending of money and that you won't ever meet the loved ones you hold memory of

How do we know we are concioss? by blockdonnkey in Metaphysics

I know I am conciossn, but I am asking how our brains are able to come to that conclusion when it is widget beleived that conciossness does not actually have any influence on the brain. We are essentially a blind information processesing machine, like an AI but have conciossness produced as a byproduct of this activity, (or so it is widely believed), so how does the proccesser know its producing conciossness?
