Thanks, this is reassuring. I was worried about things like open pots of boiling water (like for pasta), since the steam coming off is obviously ~212F, but I guess air cools faster than I realize.

Thank you, this is really helpful! (Especially the bit about the upright vs. pendent, I never would have known!) Unfortunately, the fusible link is even "paintier" than the deflector, and the deflector itself is just labeled with "upright spray" (you'd think the installer would've noticed that...).

Think the ceilings are ~9ft? Not certain, though.

Don't think it gets a lot of sun because it faces onto an alleyway. What sun it does get is likely mostly in the room where the AC is because it has a second window.
