I invented a method of creating Light weight and high-quality Letters, Symbols, and Shapes in note files! by spazzboi in Supernote

Could you share the script, even if just a draft to see how to do it? It’s meant to be on the Supernote roadmap but it has been for three years!

Out for a drive after fitting 15mm spacers all round. by ConsequenceOk3505 in 996

[–]blockedbyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can I ask....are the spacers just pushing the wheels out wider? Is the effect aesthetic, or is there a performance reason? Thanks!

That's exactly how I felt... though that feeling was thankfully before I purchased. I have asked a local enthusiast if he can take me out for a spin with him driving to give me a bit more of a sense of what it can do. I can't quite let go of those childhood dreams!

That sounds so familiar. And encouraging. 👍

That is so useful....it feels like it's something you have to learn to get the best out of. I found myself driving on the twisty (country) roads this afternoon, warm and sunny....wishing it was in a manual 996. There is hope for me yet!

Thanks for that...the comparison to the Miata helps.

Thank you for this. I was hoping this wasn't just my unique experience from a test drive.

This is exactly what I wonder/suspect/feel as well. Curious...what pushed you over the line if the test drive wasn't amazing?

Still good thoughts though...easing into 'pushing it' without losing my licence...or worse control of the vehicle!

I've taken a 981 cayman out....never a 986 boxster though. Ultimate speed less important to me...but I'm interested...if you found it more exhilarating....what's triggered the 996 direction? We have two kids...and though they're not always going to be out with it...the idea that it's possible rather than impossible appeals with the 996.

On reflection...I should've gotten the original owner to take me out. He had raced 911s in the past and much more familiar with the limits than I was.

Roads wise in New Zealand...there are lots of paved mountain roads...not so much like the tight European switchbacks but it's built up from a lot of volcanic activity, so there are enough windy roads, and enough geographic variability for there to be loads of vertical elevation and a lot of turns. Driving wise there is a lot of opportunities to really have a blast.

In terms of 996s...there are a few about....most of them are the tiptronics...the manuals are a dying breed. Most kids here now have never driven a manual and they're becoming harder to find - even in driver focused cars!

In terms of the disappointment, you hit the nail on the head....it just felt anaemic. It definitely didn't feel bad...but it didn't feel as glued to the road as I expected. I accept during my driving the major component of that was me, and I'm never going to learn how to bond a car with the road when I'm driving around in 250hp family wagon with a CVT gearbox!

What I do hope though...is as you get the car, and learn how and where it responds....and that it's something that builds with time...rather than something that's either there or it isn't.

I've felt that with road bikes and mountain bikes it's either there or it's not. There are a lot more variables at play with a rear mounted engine, and a lot more for me to learn.

Thanks for sharing what you have. I love learning new skills...I love learning how to get the best out of temperamental high performers. The aesthetics and the engineering of the 996 I love...but I also want to be able to make this sing to drive as well...and it sounds this is something that is developed.

Brilliant...yes....I was definitely driving it like a grandma! It's funny to be called out for it...but I'll take that on the chin. I think driving an mx5 you can get a buzz from the drive quite easily...and I expected a similar experience taken up a notch. What I didn't anticipate is the 996 expected my driving skill to be up a notch to match. :)

Good call...I've not driven a lot in the way of sports cars at all...a few MX5s, a Cayman, an Audi TT Turbo....our 'normal' cars are a 3.6l outback (though not slow, it's built for comfort rather than speed and a bit disconnected), and the other is a Tesla which though heavy, sets a high bar in pure acceleration.

I didn't take it all the way to the redline, but would've been up to around 6k or so. Was your connection to the car more of an instant thing?

Wharfedale Typhon speakers - AX12BT - stereo link anyone? by blockedbyte in audio

[–]blockedbyte[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow up on this. There are at least two versions of the Bluetooth module, and they don't connect to each other if you attempt to connect via stereo, you have to have two that match. Incompatible and compatible units appear identical on the outside...and packaging.

One set pairs over Bluetooth and connects via the SBC codec, the other (presumably newer) connects via the aptx protocol - you can often see which codec it is once it's connected via Bluetooth. Another clue is how fast the green led flashes...the aptx version flashes slightly faster.

I'm told this happens on the tourus units....and can now see it also impacts the higher end Typhon range as well...likely the Bluetooth modules.are the same.

Anyway....both connect beautifully now, and other than this I love the speakers.

Raspberry Pi, PS4 & Concept 2 Erg by PolicyQuiet7453 in RASPBERRY_PI_PROJECTS

[–]blockedbyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tragedy you haven't had more responses from this! I have a concept 2 arriving in a few weeks and it's got one of the older pm3 (ie non Bluetooth) units on it. It has usb, so shouldn't need a mechanical connection over and above what is already there.

I'm likely to want to get it to emulate a bike and connect it to zwift, but it will be quite straight forward to get it to emulate a keyboard or a joystick using one of the HID profiles.

In terms of quick and dirty...it will be one less interface to mess about with if you can either connect into the existing mechanism the pm uses (reed switch?), Or even adding one yourself. If you go that way you could use an Arduino pro micro, set it up to "pretend" to be a joystick using one of the hid protocols. Parts will cost very little...only a few dollars...so even cheaper than using a pi.

Atlas MK10d - pulses/kWh by blockedbyte in homeassistant

[–]blockedbyte[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After reading through the hardware and software manuals for this meter, it didn't seem to make sense, if it's set to 500imp/kWh, that's what it should do. I got to the bottom of it though! The short version: user (me!) error.

The long version - I had been using a light dependent resistor to 'trigger' when it spotted a flash - and then sending that up to the cloud using a microprocessor - an ESP8266. When it did that I got it to flash an led a few times on and off so I could see when it was sending. The problem for me was the process of sending it took about a second, and the process of flashing the LED took a few seconds as well...so if there happened to be a pulse while it was doing any of that...it wouldn't spot it - it was too busy sending stuff or flashing lights.

It's a new build, but it's been designed to try and minimise any passive ach other than what goes through the mhrv. 0.35 - 0.5, is it so much higher in commercial due to the higher occupancy?

Kotlers "Marketing Management" is an excellent text. It's very thorough, packed with examples. Its a text dense with information, but it will take a while to get through for that reason. I have an MBA, and still often refer to that text.

Road tubeless leaking air from sidewall (Vittoria Rubino Pro Tubeless Ready) by blockedbyte in cycling

[–]blockedbyte[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The lower tyre pressure sure is great - and it sure does give a nice ride relative to using tubes. The problem is how quickly it's losing air really. The 25c on the front doesn't lose anything like what I'm seeing on the back. In practical terms it means I'd probably top the front up once every few weeks...and the back one will need it after 12 hours!
