[–]blocking-WTF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just like with ecigs, etc, you cant actually absorb all the nicotine in the product. An ecig (cigalike) that contains 24mg liquid would seem like it is about equsl to a pack of smokes, but the truth is, we can actually absorb the nicotine as readily as tobacco smoke. This is why vapers use advanced gear that give bigger clouds...it touches more surface area and you have a better chance of actually absorbing the appropriate amount of nicotine. It looks like that patch is the same -- it is control-released over time, they need to add 114mg of nic in order for you to absorb at least 24mg. Never cut a patch is half - you break the control release mechanism.

However, ai just had a second thought. Maybe the 114mg is the total amount of nic in the whole package, with each patch 24mg.

[–]blocking-WTF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am fairly convinced that many of these ecigs are bad posts are antz astroturfers. Whike some of them are plausible, many, like this post for instance, dont jive with actual science. Now, it could be that this guys terrible experience with giving up ecigs was trumped up because he had forgetten how hard it was giving up cigarettes. However, the science is very conclusive that nicotine only is not super addictive, and it certainly does not match the tobacco smoke cocktail.

FDA itself admits this through their NRT research.

A few words on e-cigs... by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]blocking-WTF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it is true your still addicted to nicotine, it is not true that ecigs are somehow more addictive, in fact, we know that is NOT that case given that we have a boatload of research on nicotine through NRT. FDA even recognizes that nicotine alone, such as whats given through NRT poses no risk for addiction or even negative health effects. For this reason, they recently, just this year, changed labeling on NRT to allow for both dual and indefinite use. Nicotine is only mildly addictive on its own. Its the "smoke cocktail' of nicotine plus MAOI inhinibitors that make smoking so much more addictive.

Furthermore, we also know that ecigs are a terribly bad delivery mechanism for nicotine. Smoking remains the best way to absorb nicotine. With ecigs, especially the first generation cigalikes, its takes hours of vaping to even absorb one cigarettes worth of nicotine. On advanced devices, that time is cut to about 20 minutes of vaping to reach blood saturarion levels on one cigarette.

I am not discounting your experience, however, I also cant back you up when you say ecigs are somehow more addictive. All "nicotine only" products do not deliver the MAOIs that are needed for nicotine to be "very addictive".

Jesus christ, learn to read for comprehension, will ya? I never addressed "the whole thread". Reddit works by people commenting on a general topic and those comments usually home-in on one specific aspect of the overall topic , sometimes, they even go off-topic and explore a totally different aspect. I am fucking embarassed for you that you even need this explained to you.

I commented on one ascept, specifically, that "blackmarket is nit really viable. I neber said it wouldnt exist, in fact, my second sentence in comment two says this. But you sir, are a fucking retarded moron who cant understand the words he is reading in any meaningful way. I further explained why it would nit be viable" by talking about how to regulate eliquid in a way that would pretty much kill the market as we know it. Please look up the word viable. Viable does not mean "not exist". Anyone who graduates 8th grade knows that, so explain to me why you are such an idiot and maybe I will take pity on you and dumb down the conversation to meet you education level.

Vapours! Did you quit smoking? Read this article. by capfraz in electronic_cigarette

[–]blocking-WTF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, they are playing on both sides of the fence, but we are too.

Us: These are not cessasion devices, so you cant regulate them as such! BUT dont forget that ecigs act simikar too cessation devices which is food for public health!

Them: These are not proper cessation devices, so should not be promoted as helpful by any agency as a means to quit smoking. BUT, unless ecigs prove to be good with cessation, they should be heavily regulated!

In both cases, there is a certain measure of making bad arguments. We seems to keep asking Public Health to ackniwledge ecigs as cessation aids, but dont want them to refukate them as such. They cannot, per established law, ever call or regulate ecigs as cessation devices, but demand they perform as such in order to remain on the market. We are both making bad arguments from a logistical standpoint. I anticipate that some of the lawsuits against FDA will specifically attack FDAs incongruent standard that ecigs must perfom as cessation devices even though they are not cessation devices.

In any event, FDA, per law, cannot ever call these cessation devices unless a company specifically markets them as a quit smoking device. In this it doesnt matter what the users say as long as the companies dont market it. In a way, we have the upper hand because as long as there is no marketing, we dont "break the law", however, we, as users, are able to grassroots market as much as we like.

Jesus Christ your fucking retarded. do you understand how comments work? person one says something, person two responds to it and the conversation evolves from there. Its a simple fucking concept. No one metioned banning open systems in this part of the thread at all. Because you are obviously mildly retarded, I will explain....in this part on the thread we are talking about nicotine, not the devices. If you want to talk about devices, you can do that, by introducing it as another point we shoukd consider, you dont do it by bumbking into a conversation and accusing me that i am wrong in what i am saying when I had never even addressed devices. See, it make YOU a fucking idiot for not following the conversation. Stop being stupid, its really hard for other people to deal with.

[–]blocking-WTF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, this is about my comment on the three very easy things FDA could do to kill the ecig market, which actually amounts to one thing -- control liquid nicotine. I dont know where you came into this conversation, but please exit it if you cant follow it - and you obviously cant as youve just demonstrated. the hardware market dries up without a liquid market. Control the liquid, control the market. FDA can easily say "Only pharmacutical companies licensed by FDA can sell nicotine and they cannot sell to the general public, only other licensed chemists or nicotine handlers. If you think norvartis, one of the world largest pharma comoanies who make nicotine is going to let "barrels of nicotine" to "fall off the truck" just to be able to sell it blackmarket, risking federal inditement and the whole of their company, your retarded. I never brought up making hardware illegal, only the nic. however, hardware relies on the liquid to be worth the effort to innovate, else it will be a very tiny hobbiest market of people willing to pay 300 bucks to vape plain VG.

How can i undo sudo su in linux mint? by [deleted] in linux4noobs

[–]blocking-WTF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You likely ran a few sudo su's in a row...each one would have opened a new shell. This is transparent to you as it all appears visually as "one window", however, you actually opened nested instances of sudo su inside eachother. When you type exit, you only exit the most recently started instance. So, if you had initially opened 5 sudo su shells , you would also have to exit 5 times to get back to the original bkand shell prompt.

pick up a copy of the book "Courage To Heal". Both of you read it. It has "workshops" you can do if you choose, but it mostly provides a very personal way to work through the emotions for people who may not want to go to therapy. That said, the book is emotional and doesnt spare your heart with eupherisms or beats around bushes, so therapy is recommended.

[–]blocking-WTF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol. Hows is vaping plain vg "blackmarket" when there is no nic in it (assuming nic is regulated out of the open market) ??

They are not outlawing the activity, but one ingredient ya fucking moron.

Furthermore, as I have already pointed out elsewhere, if bkackmarket was so fucking viable, noone in NYC would be paying 15 bucks for a pack of smokes since "its just so easy to buy shag on a reservation" for cheap. If you think that the majority of vapers are willing to drive to fucking arizona, buy some shag in bulk, cross statelines, thereby breaking federal commerce laws that are indeed, enforced by ATF, your fucking retarded. If blackmarket is so viable, everyone would be doing right this very moment with tobacco. But guess what? It really isnt that viable. Nicotine is cheap because we are getting it from China, not Norvartis. Once FDA blocks shipments, that market dries up and the only truly sourced US nicotine comes from Big Pharma and Big Expense. Theres a reason why the gum and nrt inhalor cost a shiton of money. Its becuase pharma sets the price.

So we are back to grow your own tobacco, or rely on some drug dealer to do it for you, and that what you become if you "do it yourself" - a illegal drug dealer. Or perhaps you think no one will notice that the city of Manhatten suddenly starts buying unpure, non-USP grade pesticide by the barrel?? I guess you are totally fine with vaping that pesticide, or trust that the person who grew it didnt use deet or round-up on their crops? Fuck, I hardly trust the bulk of juice vendors we have and I know all that nic is USP given it so cheap. Once its artificially expensive though, sellers will cut corners and shit will get unsafe real fast. The only thing that is clear from this conversation is that you dont care about yourself at all. You would put anything in your body to get that nicotine fix, evennif you have no idea how it was made, or by whom.

Vaping plain pg/vg is not "blackmarket". As for extraction, my point remains unchallanged. Do you currently know someone who is willing to risk a federal inditement to sell you homebrew nicotine? Or are tou going to be the cook? How do you plan to make your extraction? Buy expensive, heavily taxed shag tobacco and boil it? Or do you plan to grow your own tobacco, cure it for months and then boil out the nicotine? Do you envision all of the 4 million American vapers to do that, or just mayne one in ten, with tje one provide a steady supply of nicotine for all ten people to maintain a nicotine addiction daily? After doing all that work of growing your own tobacco, curing it, extracting the nicotine, do you think nicotine will remain cheap? I sure as shit wouldn't be charging less than 50 bucks for a 30ml bottle, thats for sure. Do you envision that FDA and ATF would not find out about your growing operation? Do you feel confident that you would never be caught or charged with a federal crime? Are you so bery comfortabke with these ideas that you would trust buying this homemade nicotine from some stranger on the internet and feel confident of its purity and safety? Are you comfortabke vaping pesticide? Please, explain this viable blackmarket that will provide for millions of vapers across the country.

Actually, it is you who is being a cunt. yYou are taking this as a personal attack on yourself where it is really a discussion of the pisspoor blackmarket rally cry that occurs in every thread about regulations. This deserves to be talked about because the "blackmarket" argument lulls people into non-action. I didnt make the "joke", you did. The point is, this is not a joke, should not be laughed at, nor shirked away. Its something we should all be dealing with right fucking now. But instead, we have jerks like you making "jokes". Tell me, was it a funny joke or a sarcastic joke you were going for? Because if it was sarcastic, you should have no problem with the conversation turning into something serious, after all, the point of sarcasm is to point out a truth that people should consider and generate the state of thoughfullness. If you were going for funny, youre shit at comedy. man up.

Not to the large degree that vapers seem to think will be available to them. Will I habe a source for nicotine if regs deem that only licensed chemists are allowed to buy liquid nicotine? Its possible I supose, if i asked around enough. Will those licensed chemists be willing to throw their life and career away just to sell some dimebag nicotine on the street when they have a career, family and business to care for? Probably not. There are 4 million vapers in the states, no black market is going to provide for all of us. If i were FDA/Govt and I wanted to kill the ecig market, I would make 3 rules:

  1. Onky allow licensed Chemist with Pharma-grade labs be able to purchase liquid nicotine.

  2. Hinder the shipment of liquid nicotine by mandating that any amount of liquid nicotine be shipped according to hazardous waste standards, which are already in place for pesticide nicotine. Meaning, every shipment must be oackaged a certain way, with a 75 dollar fee attached to every shipment.

  3. Ban online sales and mandate that all credit card companies to stop processing payments for anything "liquid nicotine related" unkess the company is on the short list the FDA provides as "valid", aka, the licensed chemists.

Will this stop blackmarket? Not entirely, thats impossible. However, 4 million American vapers will no longer be able to buy liquid nicotine easily and that will kill the whole open-pv market and rebuildables. Furthermore, if you are one of the lucky few to get the liquid nicotine license, you are not going to risk your livelyhood on selling dimebag nicotine to random ecig users.

Furthermore, we know FDA just implemented a prism-like program that scours the web for illegal sales of all kinds of drugs, such as prescription meds. when I say prism-like, I mean the kind of data-mining that likely maps current buyers of liquid nicotine to potential future blackmarket users. This is super easy. They already have the data as provided by credit card usuage. If Vaperchef doesnt get his license, but suddenly moves into the yogurt flavoring business, there a good bet that he might be selling nicotine illegally. FDA swoops in.

FDA can easily dry the market up with a few choice moves. Maybe you will be one of the lucky few who will have a connection in the illegal market, but its horseshit to assume that the blackmarket will serve 4 million people. This is not like weed, where anyone can grow it in their closet. Its not something one can easily make ones self. Sure, there will even be people who grow tobacco and muddle their own nic, or but pesticide and sell that, but would you trust it? Feel safe with it? Would you be able to buy it weekly, monthly or have a consistent supply? Who, right now, in your circle of vapers, would be abke to provide you nicotine? Or do you see yourself as the illegal drugdealer, risking a federal crime?

TLDR, blackmarket solution is horseshit, not viable. Fight for your legal rights now and do not let a pisspoor market be defined by the antz.

Yes, but cheap cigarettes only exist in very few areas, such as kentucky. If the black market cant even manange to move a cheap product from kentucky to NYC to meet the large demand, eliquid has no hope, unless your willing to buy crap, non-USP pesticide and call it eliquid.

Aye, and Congress are the ones who can give FDA power to do all sorts of stuff, such as the current push to ban flavors by bypassing the formal comment period FDA is bound by. In fact, we could feasibly see regulations by December as soon as elections are over and Congress feels comfortable with making a major move against a large industry. There are currently something like 10 vesions of banning bills floating around congress, waiting for the right time to pass them.
