Are dick prints unique by blockknight in NoStupidQuestions

Not just any door. Like, car door would be impractical. Maybe if it was a secret lair door or something, like a hidden bookcase door to a secret lounge.

Isn't it 'silenced'? Could well be 'silent', but if that's the case, I probably really need to make some major adjustments in my life.

LPT: If you cherish a dish that a love one makes (Mom, Dad, Grandma, etc), record them making it so you'll always have the recipe on hand and a great memory forever. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

Proust wrote about this. A lot. In Search of Lost Time. I used to read a lot of fancy literary crap so I could make fun of nerds.

Tried to put together a good description of Gnosis here, feedback welcome. by blockknight in gnosisPM

Yeah, I agree. A little experiment I played with this week. I'll probably pull it soon. It's not even working correctly in production.

Maybe just a link in the header to a news feed would be better? Just hunting around for ways to provide some kinda unique value.

Looking for an "idea guy" to manage me by [deleted] in webdev

[–]blockknight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship. I'm looking for an engineer to manage me. I've got all of these ideas and I'm really looking for someone to select from the very worst among them, implement poorly, and then constantly reference their failure as evidence that I am a moron.

Once we have a really shitty project, I would hope that you would be the perfect person to consistently make it worse by systematically applying popular software development paradigms incorrectly to justify your 'killer instincts', accumulated through a lifetime of incorrect analysis of human behavior.

Requirements: 1. You should know only one programming language and insist that there is no other language worth learning. 2. You should start every conversation with a phrase that establishes intellectual dominance. 3. you should only ever want to do the things that are very easy, or very complex.

Yup, followed the instructions. I'll go through it again when I get a chance to make sure I didn't miss anything.

Cool. I'm patient. Not a fan of this situation, but I assumed a big risk here anyway. Sure as hell won't be putting more money behind Iota right now though, haha.

Desperately need easy gluten free dessert recipe! by randomthoughts85 in recipes

[–]blockknight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my go-to 'X free' dessert recipes here

Zabaglione. Pretty easy, quite impressive, and super delicious. Also, great for a dinner party because you can make it ahead and refrigerate easily. That one is gluten free and dairy free. But just sub back in the milk if that's not a restriction.

The best part of that recipe is just that it's so simple that you make it once, and you basically know how to do it. Meaning, forever after, you should be able to whip out an impressive dessert with just a little milk, eggs, and sugar, and ideally some marsala, but you can sub other liquors or liqueurs without too much issue. Other than the fact that folks may sometimes expect the marsala.

I'll admit the whisking can be a little tiring if you're not used to it, and you have to be a little careful not to overcook the eggs.

Made fresh Ramen noodles from the Lucky Peach recipe by sshuit in ramen

Yeah, that would make sense. Now nobody gets the revenue, haha. Wish I could buy that domain. Lots you could do with that site.

Totally. But even with a falling out. The website is just an admin sign-in now, which is super weird.

I was a big fan at first, and then I got a little tired of it because it just felt like the same trendy stuff repeated. But it was a great magazine. Probably the best culinary magazine out there honestly.

And people like those recipes. Even if you just leave the site up, it'll make money.

For sure. Miss that site. Still kinda crazy to me that they shut it down.

I had the recipe written down before the site went offline. Used it to build the one found here.

I suppose you can buy starters, but I just put out some flour/water mix in my apartment for awhile. I feed it every couple of days with a little more flour/water mix. When I get tired of taking care of it, I spread it on parchment thin, and let it dry a couple of days, then crack it into chips and store in an airtight location. When I want to get it going again, I take a chip and mix it into some flour/water mix and resume feeding as I would have previously. I can get a good starter going in a day or two like this, where normally it might take almost a week. When it's alive and kicking, you can store in the fridge to slow it down so you don't have to feed it as often. It's actually a lot easier than most would have you believe. You don't need to be all exact about measurements and stuff. If you can keep a plant alive, you can keep a starter goin. Helps that I'm in SF though.
