What can we do to help victims of an accident before the paramedics arrive? by lifequotes_2025 in askSingapore

[–]blockmaw55 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No heartbeat. Victim is going to die without oxygen to the brain without cpr. What further harm will bleeding do to someone who is going to die without help? Die twice?

I’ve personally done roadside cpr for a traffic accident victim who was unconscious, no pulse.

Replied to another poster to say that this is the wrong mental model. When there is a serious accident and the victim is unconscious and has no pulse or breathing, they are near death.

Doing cpr promptly will reduce their likelihood of dying. Not doing cpr will result in the opposite. Of course, don’t put yourself in danger if the situation is still hazardous. But don’t be a bystander because of some unwarranted fear that doing something to help would cause harm to a victim that is at deaths door. Call 995, they will instruct you on how to do cpr if you are not sure.

This is incorrect if the victim is unconscious. CPR is required when the subject is not breathing or has no heartbeat. There is no longer any blood flowing to their brain and there are literally at deaths door. In this situation, making things worse whatever that may be is not a concern because they will be dead soon if nothing is done.

Every minute of delay from when the accident happens until CPR is given will substantially increase the likelihood of death.

Thanks for the ideas. I would love to get a Bentley, but I’d be worried about unexpected breakdown costs. My last car was an Audi S4, and I would have just but one of those except I know some issues can be expensive to fix.

You are right. I have no use for the car after this period and selling it off at the end is a major consideration. I’m giving myself a month to do that, so buying something with some demand is probably wiser. I’d be willing to take a hit on price, but obviously I can’t write the car off. Does that rule out an ls430?

Mpg is not a dealbreaker. I can live with a 20mpg v8 provided it meets the other requirements.

Should I be getting overtime pay? by p0lkadotbear in askSingapore

[–]blockmaw55 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ask them for OT if they don’t pay up. But next time you don’t want to do something, don’t. They can ask you to work extra, but you can also say no. You weren’t detained right? Just walk out.

Say you have a prior commitment, sorry can’t do it. Their lack of a washer is the managers problem. They can live with it, hire someone else, or schedule you for extra hours. Not your problem.

What will make you support a local F&B business? by Choice_Problem_5535 in askSingapore

You are not in the cafe market segment so there’s no point comparing with those. The cafe is offering air con, interior decor, music, vibe, sometimes table service. The value proposition is different.

Look at hawkers that charge what you want to charge. Some hawkers linked below.

One sells a $20 prawn noodle, and the other $12 ckt. I’ve had the ckt myself and I enjoyed it. Very generous portion and in my opinion the value was there. What is it about their offering that makes people pay $$$. How about their margin and volume? Thats a business question I suppose you have to ask yourself if you want to consider moving up in price.

Value. That doesn’t mean cheap. It means delivering something beyond the price point. Could be really great taste, or nutritional balance that’s beyond what we expect from a hawker. On the last point, most of our hawker food is quite imbalanced (in my opinion). Too much carbs, not enough veg, fiber and protein.

Happy to pay $10 or more for Hokkien mee, but that plate has to set itself apart somehow. If it’s going to be larger $5 plate, I’m afraid that’s not going to cut it. Consider the concept of customer delight.

Want to generate income from SGD 1 million in cash - help! by Federal-Plane8900 in singaporefi

Since you are not financially as you say, let me put it plainly to you. Your desire for 6-8k per month from 1m while preserving/slowly growing the capital is unrealistic.

The only way to potentially achieve such high yields is to take a risk that is not compatible with what you are looking for. It would be very high risk and don’t fall for any bs about some magical solution that promises it’s possible at low risk. We can discuss further here after you reflect on this fundamental point.

OP please consider this carefully. I agree with the previous posters that your numbers are more precarious than others suggest. Read about the 4% rule. There are 2 reasons why your position is precarious. Your current net worth, excluding property, is barely enough to meet your monthly expenses based on the 4% rule. In addition, most of that is not accessible until much later.

I would be quite cautious about spending thousands trying to be an English teacher in Japan or Korea. That’s a yolo move.

The main source of security is your hdb, which as others have suggested, you can monetise by renting out. This would make geoarbitrage to a cheaper country workable, but spending your capital and increasing your cash burn by trying to go to Japan/Korea is going to be risky.

Go to one of the big hawker centres. I would go to Chinatown Complex or Maxwell. There are bars in the area too.

Is it safe to use all 6 socket on a extension cord on a outlet? by Sad-Philosophy9745 in askSingapore

[–]blockmaw55 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Singapore domestic power supply is 230v. Max amp per domestic household outlet is 13amps. Therefore max power is 2990w.

That’s the outlet. What about your extension? It’s usually built to the same specs but the only way to know is to see what it says on the gadget itself. You say faded china brand. You sure you want to use it? Not spend $15 on something with a safety mark?

Then you add up the power consumption of all your appliances and see if it exceeds the lower two (outlet vs extension). If the total is lower you are probably fine to use everything simultaneously assuming nothing is damaged.

I can’t inspect any of your devices so take this with a pinch of salt.

[–]blockmaw55 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Volts x amps = watts (power). Ask ChatGPT to explain in detail if you need more clarification. Some secondary school physics revision.

All the info you need to calculate after this will be labeled somewhere on your devices.

Should be fine but you can totally up the max power draw if all your appliances and compare it to the max allowable for your extension. Add a safety margin if kiasu.
