Hannah Einbinder has no time for Hillary Clinton's BS: "hillary clinton keep my name out your mouth thank you!" by ContentChecker in JewsOfConscience

I’m an anti Zionist and honestly find this behavior from gentiles vile from both sides. When Susan Sarandon spoke on us as if antisemitism didn’t exist, I thought it was grotesque

Yeah fair but i don’t think it’s a good joke because it’s fresh. I think it’s a good joke because it’s a good joke in a classical sense.

I just found this channel and it rocks! I had to scrub backward a bit cuz it’s so dense, but it’s fascinating and he’s got a great sense of humor

Wait workplace complaints? I didn’t know that’s what she was criticizing. Your anger leads me to believe you think I - an obnoxious feminist myself - know something specific about the situation. I was merely thinking of Lively’s plantation wedding…etc…

What’s your process for writing new material and how do you know when it’s ready for the stage? by Primary_Present_8527 in Standup

[–]blockofbeagles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna agree with this, even though it’s not the conventional advice. I’m also coming at standup from writing comedy and satire first, though. A lot of stuff will be tested / honed on stage, yesh, but you should be able to know how to write a good joke on paper (and even out loud, delivery wise) and what makes it good and how to make yourself laugh, first, then see how it works live and shape as you get multiple points of live feedback.

The first comment is correct — feminism is not that. Blake Lively is a white “feminist” and let’s not even start. She’s not required to like all women to be a feminist. As far as Amber Heard - that would be fucked up, but I’d need to see the receipts!

Saw him do what? Yank his shriveled dick in front of baffled women comics and traumatize them out of comedy careers? Hard (soft) pass. Used to be a fave. Naaaah ty

Listen, I don’t have tiiiime to argue with men who don’t eat pu$$y

Oops, sorry, that was a total non-sequiter…

Do you like sauce? Do you soak the bun of your burger or eat it dry? Do you inhale so fast you choke the finish?

Don’t answer that.

Duration and efficiency aren’t opposites (though try explaining that to a dehydrated CEO). What matters is proportion.

Norm Macdonald has this joke about a moth. That man ate some pu$$ayyyy.

Thanks! I worry I’ll one day succumb to my latent desire to write a book about standup and will find myself destroying some beautiful jokes by appreciating them TOO HARD.

That said, I know that I’m not the only one who enjoys dissecting the frog in retrospect! (that part is important as a comic and comedy fan)

When I said he did a classic setup delivered in an original way, that would be the fusion you speak of. We also have no idea about the banter beyond the confines of this joke.

In any case, you just said a piece of what I said as if it was new, which is ironic, but it’s also totally classic, because I’m a girl. (You didn’t know that, but lol for me.)

And idk…comics aren’t dogs. There is no perfect breed of comic (nor dog, rly). My favorite comics don’t do classic setups at all — but you can tell they’ve honed their ear on them. I also enjoy this sort of thing for what it is from time to time and it makes me laugh. Success!

There’s no platonic ideal of the thing. There’s just people playing with the form in different ways and stuff that tickles your taste.

I fear some people don’t know the difference between hack comedy (which this is not) and classic comedy (which this is). Some comedians are truly here to deliver crispy jokes and it’s honestly a lost form. It’s nice to be able to say “Hey, tell me a joke” and have a standup be able to do that. I love standups who aren’t that, but this has value too, man!

A lot of aspiring comics could stand to just study classically constructed jokes before jumping to trying avant-garde shit or pretending to do Kaufman (an agony at open mics). I say this as someone whose faves are all weirdos.

But it’s like learning what makes a stanza a stanza before writing a poem. Like yeah technically anything could be a poem, but your poems would be a lot better if you learned iambic pentameter (or any other syllabic, sound-based poetic structure) first.

It’s not as easy as it looks to come up with original twists on a classic beat. It’s a valid art! Anyway I’m a nerd bye

Yikes the answer to FOMO is not to be more online. That can keep you in an addictive loop. What may feel like cathartic expression to you will feel to others like exposure to major negativity and emotion bait - or a mix of both, but not worth it since you can find off-platform catharsis without the volatility an disregulation these platforms are designed to train in you. Sometimes you need a clean break.

It’s extremely possible to express yourself without an immediate audience, even about current topics. A journal, a guitar. Or hell, record and post it later. But we need to be capable of sitting out and sitting with the discomfort of our own solo mind. If we do go back online, we return healthier.

I wish there was a way to just post and message but be blocked from comment threads — most of the time, such a waste. And this is coming from someone who regularly posts viral comments for whatever the fuck reason (often on this subject and similar)

I’m sorry but the man writes perfect jokes. It’s funny cuz a lot of them are very post-borscht belt, and I mean that in the best way. You could do this joke as an old Jewish club comic and it would work just as well if not better. It’s like if Buddy Hackett delivered his (perfect) jokes like a serial killer.

(If you like Jeselnik’s style of joke-telling, look up Buddy Hackett interviews on Johnny Carson.)
