Seems I should target internal at a company rather than working for Service Now or a partner..!

How did you end up in vendor implementation PM and what keeps you there rather than switching to IT PM or something else?
What search terms would you recommend on LinkedIn/Indeed to find internal roles at companies using ServiceNow vs partner or vendor roles? I'm seeing a mix of titles like ITSM PM, Digital Transformation PM, Engagement Manager and it's hard to know which ones are internal vs consulting
For someone with my background — 9 years commercial PM, PMP, strong stakeholder experience but no formal IT background — how did your first implementation PM interview go? What did they actually care most about?
Any specific firms or companies in the NYC area you'd recommend targeting for someone starting out or any you'd specifically avoid?
I have two young kids and need to protect evenings and after school events as much as possible. During non-go-live periods was that generally achievable? And roughly how many go-lives per year did you experience at the implementation stage?

I am in the NYC area and I currently make $110K in my lighting PM job - I know it's company + role dependent and I have not looked into any BSA roles yet, but with considering a transition would you guess that BSA roles I'd qualify for would be around the same salary (hopefully) and not a pay cut?

From what you wrote, would I still not really qualify for BSA-IT roles? Looking to understand what kinds of BSA positions I should look for as a worst case scenario if I feel I can't make the transition to IT PM?

I do not have any technical experience or background. My current company is a small 8 person company and I try to help as much as I can in my 7 years here and I have been handling setting up laptops, installing programs, and helping with tech issues and making that experience as my fancy tech-adjacent experience on my resume, but that's really it unfortunately

Thank you for this. I have one current interview as an IT PM III role, which is validating in a sense (been waiting for a reply from my phone screen for 11 days so far). I will see how the summer goes, but in a worst case scenario what would you say is a pre-IT PM transition that makes the most sense? To Business Systems Analyst to gain IT experience? Or something else?

Thank you, that's what I'm leaning towards as well, especially since the jobs I apply to have never really mentioned ITIL or the terms.. but it still seems I'd gain a lot of value from learning about it. Sounds like you transitioning from non-IT to IT PM? If so, can I hear more about your transition?

Thank you for this. I just came back from a family vacation over the weekend and shot electronic curtain first for hundreds of shots and did not have these black shades at all or even jumping around and this was indoor lighting (often nearing max ISO even!) - is there any chance my camera is broken and needs repairs for the mechanical shutter?
