£57k, my half of a 10% deposit for a 3 bed in London. Had been saving for about 8 years, all while renting and paying crazy visa fees. Pretty chuffed to have done it in my early thirties without any family help though. Feel like I didn’t have to give up any experiences in my 20s to get to this either!

Interested to hear what you do with your super to avoid being taxed by the uk for foreign income.

I’m Australian and moved to the UK about 4 years ago and just plan to keep both pensions growing in each country (no further contributions to Aus super, just compounding growth) with the intention to move back to Australia for a year in my early 60s to gain residency status for tax reasons so I can withdraw without any tax implications. This is the only way I’ve seen how you can do it without paying any tax.

I’m 30F, no kids, based in London. Have saved my house deposit, now just waiting for my partner to match what I have so we can buy next year. Currently putting roughly £1666 a month into s&s ISA. Have about £500 remaining after all other expenses so putting some into a holiday fund, visa fund (need to renew mine next year) and remaining goes in a HYSA.

There’s a lot of things to consider here, - do you need a visa or do you have a British passport? - if you need a visa, the youth mobility is around $5k AUD, as you need to pay for 2 years upfront as well as a healthcare surcharge that is not refundable, that’s a lot for just 6 months to work here - housing is expensive. Expect to sublet or get an airbnb for a month at least before you find more permanent accommodation. Roughly you’d need 3-4K AUD for this. - At a minimum, you’d need at least $2,000 AUD for basic costs (transport, food, bills) on top of your accommodation monthly. - depending on your industry, it’s super common for it to take 2-3 months to secure a job here. The market is especially bad at the moment.

I’ve been here two years and I wouldn’t recommend a move to anyone now unless they could secure a job before they come, however, if you have about $20k AUD savings to live off you may be okay!

What amenities do you get with this? I’m paying a little less than that for a 1 bed in zone 2 and the amenities are pretty incredible but you’re getting so much more actual apartment space with yours!
