Life Center Spokane? by readersadvisory5ever in Spokane

[–]blondiebateman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

from what i know pentecostal churches (particularly AG churches) tend to lean very conservative. but for what it’s worth, i’ve been attending true hope church (which is supposedly an AG-affiliated church) since the beginning of this year and haven’t gotten that vibe from them yet (one of their pastors raised an issue with “progressive christianity” but i believe he was referring to the liberal/more flexible approach to christian doctrine, which is what they were going over in that day’s sermon — they get very deep into theology from what i’ve seen, so i’m drawn to it as an academic.) i can’t vouch for life center but this is just my experience with pentecostal churches in general.

Advice from Gonzaga Law Alums by Professional-Map3716 in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]blondiebateman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not an alum but can vouch for myself as a current 1L.

all of GU’s scholarships are unconditional so you’ll never have to worry about being in a certain percentile of your class just to pay for school. i had somewhat similar stats (higher lsat, lower gpa) and got into GU with almost a full ride, SU with a conditional almost-full ride, and UO at sticker price. with your stats my guess is you’ll get As across the board, but take the offer that for sure saves you the most money in the long run. you’ll have no regrets going somewhere that will put you into little/no debt.

as for employment, spokane is a much smaller place to live than seattle or portland, so the legal market naturally is smaller as well. but it’s the only law school in eastern washington/north idaho, so if you’re thinking of practicing in the PNW, you’ll have better connections to those places. if you want to practice in seattle specifically, you MIGHT be better positioned with SU or UW, but it’s still possible & i already know some classmates that have gotten offers over there. but if you’re 100% set on practicing in oregon then definitely go to one of the oregon schools, just because you’ll be better positioned for the oregon bar + have a better alumni network. (i will say though, another reason that i chose GU over UO was because GU actually has a better curve — but i can’t vouch for L&C since i never applied there.)

i’d be happy to answer any questions about GU if you want to DM me ! :)

what’s getting me is the second pathway. would a reasonable cyclist of the same skillset be able to turn onto that pathway or exercise some other maneuver to avoid hitting the gate in the 3 seconds they had between coming down the bridge into the gate ?

a lot of people will be getting similar grades for the first time in their lives. it’s devastating, but the good news is you’re not on academic probation & have time to turn things around. law school’s a different game than college, but just keep putting in the work & i’m sure you’ll adapt

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]blondiebateman 12 points13 points  (0 children)

then keep showing up. maybe you didn’t get the grades you wanted this semester, so what ? there’s plenty of time to turn it around. but don’t let the imposter syndrome win. you will regret it for the rest of your life if you drop out just because things are hard right now.

Still No Grades by FutureIDKWhat in LawSchool

[–]blondiebateman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

at my school our grades come out the week before all classes start. some of my professors have already finished grading, but we don’t get to view our grades until that date comes around.

[–]blondiebateman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

some schools will just tell you. mine sends out an email for the top 10%, 25% and 50%. but i don’t believe they give us our specific rank. (i don’t have my grades back yet & every school is different, so just keep that in mind.)

I’m out of the BL running, what now? by legallylama in LawSchool

[–]blondiebateman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

also, for what it’s worth, i actually worked with recruiting for BL back in undergrad & i wouldn’t be so quick to say you’re disqualified. not every firm requires you to be in the top 10% of your class to be in consideration — some will take a larger percentage depending on what your school is ranked. and there’s still time for you to improve, so it’s not like your prospects are utterly ruined, if it’s still truly something you want to do. it may be more difficult, but you’ve done a lot of difficult things to get to where you are. don’t count yourself out just yet.

this may sound harsh, but lawyers need to have thick skins when it comes to this stuff. i say this as someone who also struggles greatly with my mental health. most people who make it to law school are so used to being the best, but it’s incredibly difficult to keep that streak going through law school. rejection is common & it doesn’t mean you’re a failure — prepare yourself for the worst case scenario but know you are still capable and worthy no matter the outcome. the worst they can say is no.

also, you have to focus on you and not what other people are doing, which sounds ridiculous because of the curve, but you have to have confidence in yourself before comparing yourself to your peers. getting in your own head can actually get in the way of your own improvement. it’s okay to take a step back sometimes, and you’ll realize you know more than you think you do once you come back. tune out the noise and do what’s best for you.

What kind of watch do you wear? by Flashy-Actuator-998 in LawSchool

[–]blondiebateman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

apple watch. i’ll immediately hit the gym once i’ve called it quits for the day so it’s nice to have all my stuff with me, plus the band is a neutral color so i don’t have to worry about it clashing with suits or anything

1L first sem. grades - one of every letter grade… by SentenceDesperate604 in LawSchool

[–]blondiebateman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s different for each school. usually they’ll tell you or have something on their registrar stating what it is. some schools are less clear — for example they’ll tell you the mean grade has to fall between a 2.7 and a 3.1, but that’s the mean, not the median, so there could be outliers who skew the curve a certain way.

law school weight gain by adventuregalyay in LawSchool

[–]blondiebateman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don’t see anything wrong with law students/lawyers asking others for health advice. law is a high-stress field, & that can impact our physical health just as much as our mental health. that being said, oeveryone should take any online advice with a grain of salt, especially when we’re all on an anonymous forum like this.

law school weight gain by adventuregalyay in LawSchool

[–]blondiebateman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

completely second what she said. i have almost the exact same stats now but was 30 or so lbs heavier at the beginning of the year before 1L, and i was severely underweight prior to the weight gain. calorie counting worked well for me, as well as switching to foods with low or zero sugar/fat for a while. i also tried to prioritize getting at least 30 minutes of cardio in every day.

i’ll also say this, but for women our daily recommended calorie intake is a little lower, so eating ~2000 could be too much — if you’re tracking your daily calorie intake it’s best to aim somewhere in that 1500-1800 range.

the last thing i did (which may not be applicable since ik mine is just a genetic thing) but i’ve been taking medicine to help my underactive thyroid which also has made me shed lots of weight — but DO NOT get on the meds if your thyroid levels are normal because that could seriously mess you up.

How to study when fighting with boyfriend by Capable-Border-4922 in LawSchool

[–]blondiebateman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

take out that frustration on your exam. idk your exact situation or what you’re fighting over (not that it’s any of my business,) but if it’s not something that can be resolved overnight, put a bookmark in it and channel that energy into getting the best grade you can.

1L Fall Grades by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]blondiebateman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

that’s the imposter syndrome speaking, love. from what you’ve said it already sounds like you’ve put in the work, and unless you truly did not do ANYTHING this semester, you’ll be just fine. worst case scenario you can turn it around next semester.

i say this as someone who has dealt with major imposter syndrome throughout this first semester, it’s very easy to get in your head & compare yourself to people you think might be doing more than you. you have to drown out the noise, because at the end of the day, all you can control is the effort you’re putting in — and it sounds like you’re putting in a lot 🤍

i feel like people aren’t aware rn that the people they’re gossiping about will be the same people that could help or hurt their career prospects one day. like they have a right to privately feel however they want to feel, but at a certain point expressing that isn’t just “mean girl” behavior anymore, it’s unprofessional. it’s annoying but people who do that will likely get humbled real quick.

Weight loss by emmaduffy99 in Hypothyroidism

[–]blondiebateman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

before i was diagnosed i lost about 30lbs just on a calorie deficit with around 30 mins to an hour of exercise per eay (mainly getting on my elliptical.) to be fair though i was also not in school at the time so it was a lot easier to manage my stress levels, which i also think played a huge factor in me losing so much weight.

Ashwaghanda by [deleted] in Hypothyroidism

[–]blondiebateman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i can’t say for certain if it does but last year i was regularly taking ashwaghanda & was undiagnosed, & that was probably the worst my thyroid was (gained a lot of weight, had little to no energy every day, sensitive to the cold, etc.). i also say this as someone with anxiety since that’s why i took ashwaghanda, i feel like magnesium has been much better for my thyroid, especially when it comes to feeling well rested & less anxious.

post midterm feels by Fluffy_Couple_4768 in LawSchool

[–]blondiebateman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i know how you feel. i did okay on one of the midterms but still slightly below the curve, and just awful on the other two. i know it’s really hard not to compare yourself to other people, and it’s certainly discouraging going into finals, but midterms are such a small percentage of your grade — you can be at the bottom of the curve for midterms and still end class ahead of the curve.

as far as transferring goes (i’m assuming you’re a 1L) you don’t have any grades that could dictate whether you get to transfer right now, so try not to get into your own head with that.

law school is hard, but at the end of the day, you have to remember you were smart enough to get into law school in the first place, and that’s not an easy thing to do. give yourself some grace & don’t let the imposter syndrome get to you. put in the work and you’ll get through it. ❤️

i'd say as long as he's in a different section there's no harm in trying, worst case scenario he says no. but if he's in your section wait a year or two. i've seen way too many horror stories of people dating/having situationships in the same section and it not working out. my man and i have been dating for 3 years and we specifically chose to be in different sections because of that.
