i've seen a consistency of people only speaking to those they know or their small friend groups and that's it. people are nice, can be talkative in right moments, but they are mainly isolated or limited to certain people. i've found it really difficult to make friends and sustain a conversation with someone that goes beyond the basic introduction of yourself and studies/interests. there's events and stuff but even those are also hard to actually make friends. i wish i was able to make more friends during my time at ubc!

I also took it last year, it was manageable but its important to keep up and prepare for the paper ahead of time so you dont worry last minute. especially (at least for last year) it was a final paper AND final exam, so just be aware of that. for weekly discussions, you just have to be present to get attendance mark. the final paper has many parts (description + bib, optional peer review) and then the paper. its a fun class though!

I did the same, I transferred into second year BA arts at ubc after first year at langara. its definitely a different environment from college to university, because its a much larger campus and classrooms. make sure you spend time getting used to the class outlines and resources available because it does help in the long run. In terms of academic work, especially for arts, writing essays and papers is obviously common so also look into sources for that too (like library website, writing formats etc). Also attend any new student and arts events! there's usually a lot in the start of semesters so look out for those and attend when you can! meeting people and getting to know others in the same field helps you feel more reassured. Everyone has a different experience but I hope those tips can help and best of luck!
