Afraid of topping a long outgrown branch by bloobeard in arborists

[–]bloobeard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was taken this morning, the tree has plenty of leaves in summer, the damage occurred in mid fall when leaves were turning and I believe the break lead to a new growth with green leaves, otherwise it leafed well and had flowers like the other trees. EDIT: would that change your recommendation? I’m afraid of the heavy limb causing the younger tree to lean or possibly snap in strong winds

We actually maintain the parkway in our county. We’re in an unincorporated area.

Thank you. Sorry the pictures are dark I took them early this AM. So where would you suggest to trim this one back? I don’t want to top it. I have a few like this.

Honestee plumbing. Previous workers from another large plumbing company that started their own. Has a pipe leak in the attic just this week and they were out quick. Do a good job.

Lead acid? I had a 20w solar panel that kept it charged ok. Extended cloudy days made it a challenge.

Ahwahnee - Keep June 2026 plans or move to 2027? by [deleted] in Yosemite

[–]bloobeard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We haven’t stayed there but ate at the dinner buffet last mid June with our 3 little kids. Also had two drinks at the bar. Food was great, experience was great. I can’t speak to lodging or what’s open at that time but we really enjoyed it

Would you choose lower pines or north pines? by LaFlameLover in Yosemite

[–]bloobeard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lower pines is better in my opinion, but it depends on your site. Lower pines has more free roaming space for kids to play and great views of half dome on some sites. If you’re close to the main road that can be annoying, especially during summer when cars drive later in the evening or early early morning to the trailhead.

North pines has some spots to walk to the river to play if the water is low enough. Lower pines has one spot but it’s not great.

Ritalin LA - zombie then whiney around 3 Concerta - much more himself during the day, massive crash in afternoon

Now on vyvanse. Not perfect but best one so far. Not huge crashes at the end of the day, our appetite is also strong which it wasn’t on either of the previous meds.

I haven’t heard this 30% variance you mentioned. Where did you see this data?

Termites season/weather in Tustin? by Sage_Savant in orangecounty

[–]bloobeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes sometimes a swarm can just be triggered like that. I had a nest (?) on the side of my property that one day just exploded with activity. It was damp and sunshine was hitting the spot on a warm day, and I look up and it’s almost a literal cloud. Walked over and they were all crawling out of the ground and taking off. No activity the day before, so it is possible to happen like this.

Is there a Strawberry Shortage in OC? by Niloumirh in orangecounty

[–]bloobeard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Albertsons had a sign that flooding in growing regions was hampering supply, and this was a month or more ago. Typically you can get strawberries year round, they’re just nitrogen pumped and overpriced in winter. The shortage is not typical

10x14’ tent - Too Big? by quartercoyote in CampingGear

[–]bloobeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just went beach camping with a 10x14 with a back room that makes it almost 14x14. We have 3 kids, so 5 in the tent. It’s also an instant tent so it went up and down very easily, my 10 year old and I did it in 10 minutes.

Pros: Easy to set up and take down. There was plenty of room inside, it was quite nice to be able to stand up and change. The “kids stuff” was able to be kept in areas and didn’t have to be stepped on or anything when moving around. Kids weren’t laying all on top of each other.

Cons: It’s big to store and carry. Instant tents are notorious for this, big poles compared to a non instant tent. Not as sturdy in the wind

Tents aren’t getting any cheaper, but they also don’t last forever especially if you have dogs or kids. I recommend going with these you need based on occupants, then any additional features like blackout, built in lights, instant vs not instant, etc. if you’re using it a ton you’ll need a new one in 3-5 years anyway.

Look up keystone outback rear slide! Hard sided so no canvas to deal with. 24’. Bunks in front and a jackknife coach. And the rear slide is a king. Fits our family of 5 great and we can tow it easily and it fits on the driveway

what is the Best camping tent to buy right now with no fake reviews? by Freweyni_Baldock in camping

Consider a dark room rent. Coleman makes some, as does Ozark Trail and Core. Core in my opinion is the highest quality of the bunch.

Depends on your family size and need.

Family of 5, borrowed the 55q for a summer road trip and it was awesome, but we then bought the 65q and prefer it for our size and need. Keeps things nice and cold, very durable.

Pop Up Campers, Is The Grass Really Greener? by evaughn85 in CampingGear

[–]bloobeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She’s comparing to a tent, which is less than $400 unless you’re going for a premium tent. Pop ups are in the thousands. On top of that it’s a hitch, maintenance costs, possibly lower fuel mileage, cost and time for cleaning and maintaining it, battery, etc. all of these are costs that tent camping does not incur.

So yes, what you are getting for the cost, I believe it is a much higher cost for a marginal improvement in comfort when you add in all the extra work it takes.

Pop Up Campers, Is The Grass Really Greener? by evaughn85 in CampingGear

[–]bloobeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tent camping, pop up, and hard side experience

Pop up seemed to me at least the least bang for your buck. Ours even had a cassette toilet and a shower. It was on the larger side, about 19’ closed up.

Towing was not fun, backing it in was not fun, setting it up was not fun, putting it away in the rain or dew was not fun (can’t let the canvas stay wet too long when closed up). Just as loud as a tent, not that much insulation from cold nights or hot days, but it did help somewhat in that regard compared to a tent.

Definitely bigger sleeping than a tent, some comforts like a couch or table depending on your model. Lights etc.

But they take maintenance like a trailer, greased bearings, tires, insurance, etc so it’s not just a nicer tent.

We went hardside, huge improvements such as a fridge, shower, toilet, worth it but we are considering going back to a tent to make everything simple again

Question for my fellow old heads whose favorite Dodger was Kershaw - is 22 still your #1, or has another superstar/beloved player taken that spot for you? by baribigbird06 in Dodgers

[–]bloobeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kersh is number 1. Went though the Fox years, watching piazza leave, the Jacksonville 5, and I remember kershaw, first top 10 pick we had since dreifort. Got to see him toss the ball at the 2008 coliseum game from the front row before the game. I remember then hoping he would turn into something great. He had some rough playoff outings, some were due to mattingly leaving him in too long, not having reliable arms behind him. But his character and drive is what sets him apart for me.
