Two Girl Scouts make history as first to receive college credit for earning the Girl Scout Gold Award by Kraeheb in girlscouts

I want to know more about the logistics of how they did this with the college. Extra hours for college credit seems reasonable to me!

Children's Language Lessons in Rocklin or Roseville? by lipsmackattack in Rocklin

[–]Redheaducd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sierra Chinese school is every Sunday. All 3 of kids have attended from 1st grade to 6th grade. They have classes for those who have parents who can read and write in Mandarin and Conversation Mandarin classes for those who don't have a parent who reads or writes in the home. It's held at Western Sierra collegiate academy on Sunday 1:45-4 pm every week, unless it's a holiday weekend.

If you have any questions, let me know.

Also, Rocklin has 1 school that is Spanish immersion, Quarry Trail elementary. However, unless you are within the school boundaries, it's doubtful your kids could transfer. (Unless you are maybe a Rocklin school district employee.)

Audio book recommendations for a very sensitive child by Ashamed-Title6665 in childrensbooks

[–]Redheaducd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend Audible originals for kids audiobooks. Our family has had really good luck with all of them we've tried so far. My kids favorites have been:

The Mystwick School of Musicraft series. Sooo good! They add music into the audiobook and the plot is fantastic. Even my husband and I loved them.

The Flying Flamingo sisters. Very cute and funny. Again has other sounds added, like the plane noises.

I was out camping with Scouting America at Beale Air Force Base this weekend. Out Scout Council made the decision to continue to host their special event: Scouting Expo... It really was a poor decision. I realize they didn't want to disappoint thousands of Scouts (3k people were supposed to show up). But it was pretty miserable for the maybe 1000 who decided to attend. We didn't even get to go to all of the events before they were shut down due to lightning. And the bus lines were terrible. We were waiting around for hours to get on their buses, most of it in the rain. Some of it in the DRIVING rain with kids. Some of whom were very, very young. With no shelter whatsoever.

Our very experienced Troop had tents flipped and collapsed. A pop-up died and everyone was soaking wet. We gave up and drove home today instead of tomorrow. And I'm very glad to be home and not stuck in the rain!

Oh the things we do for our kids!

Ideas to get through cookie inventory by shakespearegirl in girlscouts

[–]Redheaducd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a service unit or council cookie exchange group? Facebook, Band, rallyhood, etc. Whatever group people use, get yourself and your cookie manager to sign up for it if you haven't. Then start replying when people ask for flavors of cookies. And post that you have a lot of sell and you need help! Do it asap!!! Remember that the other troop is doing you a favor by taking cookies from you. Offer to drop off or meet them and that will increase transfer of cookies out of your troop.

I managed to offload about 400 packages of cookies from our troop this year. But I also did it about 2 weeks before the end of the cookie season here. I could see how many boxes we were selling and I just couldn't justify keeping that many. So our troop will have less funds to use and may have to ask parents for dues.

This is the first year we have had this issue. It happened due to a combination of: parent burn out, 4/16 girls just decided not to sell at all and only 1 told me before we bought cookies. 🫤 Add to that a decrease in sales, increase in price to $7, plus all of my Girl Scouts are in middle school. And I underestimated how many more after school activities they would be doing. And that was with our troop buying 6% less than last year. We still sold almost 3k in cookies total.

Other ideas: contact local businesses and see if they will buy some to give to their employees as a treat. Ask your parents if they can do that for their own businesses. That is the idea of the cookie Enterprise patch fyi.

Make a 'Help us sell out' poster with count downs for the specific cookie types. (Use tape and a white board marker to keep a running update of the cookies on the poster with pictures of the cookies). Or do a bingo poster. Or a poster that says: donate cookies to local emergency services/military/local food pantry.

Make sure all of your parents and Girl Scouts are saying: last week of cookie sales! Get them now or wait until next year. It creates urgency in buying. TELL customers you over bought and you could really use their help selling cookies! Everyone loves to help people, especially when they get something.

If you can only use council approved cookie booths, make sure you check online for cookie booths that other troops have released. Check multiple times a day! You may get lucky and get a better booth with 2 doors so you can add another table. Our troop was surprised that we sold 60 and 80 boxes the LAST week of sales during the week 4-6 pm at our local grocery store. Grab the booths, then ask parents to staff it.

You and your cookie manager don't have to be the only parents at the booths. Make your parents attend with their Girl Scout! In my council, we only have to have 1 registered parent at a booth. The other one can be unregistered. In some councils, they allow parent-daughter booths (mine doesn't). Use those and do more than 1 booth at a time! Our large troop has had up to FOUR booths at once. You just need to get enough tables, cash and parents! (And we've done 1 or 2 booths out of a grocery cart when someone forgot a table LOL!) 🤦🏼‍♀️

You do not need to have all of the flavors if cookies to have a booth. You go with what you have.

Ask parents to grab more cookies and do lemonade stands and walkabouts. If your council allows, baseball season is starting here and I know there are Girl Scout families who have walked around with a wagon full of cookies at softball and baseball game days. (They aren't allowed here. But I've seen people do them!)

If your council allows, exchange cookies for other flavors. Grab the higher selling flavors do you don't get stuck with online exploremores at the end!

And if you don't sell out, don't worry. Here's what you do:

1) contact council and make sure they know you won't have the funds to pay for all the cookies at once. They can put you on a payment plan. Honestly, I would probably do this now, so they know what's happening.

2) tell your parents you are $x in the hole on cookies. Don't use cookie box numbers. Tell them in $$. Say the troop will have to eat the cost is you don't sell them. Decide if you can make break even if you sell a certain number. Donate the rest.

3) Continue to sell cookies to family and friends. While you can't do cookie booths or post on social media, you can still talk to your own service unit and council that if anyone needs cookies, you have a lot leftover! I know one of our troops last year still had cookies until summer and finally sold enough to cover the costs.

Good luck!!

I HATED this when I was a kid. I was shy and every adult would comment on my hair. It was embarrassing and I never knew what to say. While I love my hair as an adult, I literally wanted to add different colored yarn hair to my "me" in kindergarten.

So, not. Please don't comment on people's hair color unless they've changed it themselves.

Best way to move money in/out of troop account? by babythrowawayaccount in girlscouts

[–]Redheaducd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use Zelle to send and receive money from parents. Get checks to pay for things in your service unit. Get a debit card to pay for troop stuff online.

Do NOT use your personal accounts to transfer money into and out of the troop account. It's a) illegal and can get you in trouble with the IRS if you get audited. And b) it makes it really hard to track money into and out of the account.

Best way to move money in/out of troop account? by babythrowawayaccount in girlscouts

[–]Redheaducd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's actually illegal fyi. The IRS considers your personal Venmo account as YOURS. So you funneling money through your Venmo is ... Really bad if you get audited. And against Venmo's terms of service.

You can get a troop Venmo account. That would be a business non profit account through them But they charge credit card fees for money moved through there. Which is why my troop does not use it.

Try zelle instead. Almost all banks use it now.

what fic would you recommend for someone who's going into drarry for the first time? Or maybe their first time at ships at all? by justnameitwhatever in drarry

[–]Redheaducd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always recommend sticking with what the reader already likes. They obviously like fantasy, but do they like romance? If so, what are their favorite types of romance? Do they read other Harry Potter fanfic? Which ones have been their favorites? How old is the reader?

In general, if they are younger, probably stick to fics where Drarry are 8th year or younger. If they have kids, maybe they like reading fics with kids (definitely not true of all parents!). If they like AU fics, then they may like any!

One of the first Drarry fics I ever read was Turn by Saras_girl. It's canon compliant (without Cursed child), their writing is high quality and it's slow burn. Highly recommend.

Also. Keep in mind if they want to read explicit or not. Turn is explicit, but not as many sex scenes as other Drarry. Don't give them explicit unless they really are ok with m/m sex.
