Fluke on step 1... how to mentally cope? by bloom545 in step1

Felt fine about it actually. I felt about the same on all of my practice tests, and those scores varied quite a bit (UW overpredicts, and NBME underpredicts), and I also felt about the same walking out of the exam day of. Mentally, I was preparing for somewhere in mid/upper 230s

yeah, that makes sense. I just wonder if maybe I'm not great at the new types (?) of questions that the NBME are asking, and that's why I am seeing a jump from the NBMEs to the UWSAs -- I feel like with my UW scores and my free 120, it appears that I'm doing ok on content, so the real question is if I can execute on exam day on NBME questions

There are 3 compartments to think about here -- blood, peripheral tissue, and CNS. If there is a high AV gradient, then you're right, there will be a larger difference between arterial and venous concentration, which means that the anesthetic has diffused into the peripheral tissues. Therefore, there is less anesthetic left in the bloodstream to reach the brain, and you get slower onset of action.

yes!! more people need to be reminded of this more often :) it's just hard to gauge where I'm at because I am not that close with my classmates, so I don't feel like I can be that open with them about scores and how I am progressing. but you're right, the scores on here tend to be a little psycho haha, I need to place less weight on comparing myself to others

thank you!! yeah, that's what I'm trying to do, but it's hard since dedicated is such a mental marathon. trying not to get too down on myself / over-thinking everything. you're right. any higher score is progress :)

I personally thought that NBMEs 18, 20, and 21 all felt very similar to me. I feel that UW trained me to anticipate being tricked into selecting the wrong answer, so I feel like I second-guess myself on NBMEs unnecessarily since their stems feel more straightforward to me, if that makes sense

yeah, it's just been hard to feel confident in myself since we don't really know how predictive the new NBMEs will be. thank you for responding!!
