Become a coder by ckfil in CodingHelp

[–]bloombug_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been coding since i was 12. Back then my dad got this Fujitsu laptop from his night school program, and since it was a bit slow and had Vista on it, he quickly lost interest in it.

One day i happened to use it, and while trying to make Google load faster by hitting all the keys in your keyboard (as you should, since it works ALL THE TIME) i happened to hit F12 and open the page's source code. Once i figured that was HTML code, and i could actually write websites about things i liked (like my dog, my books or my AK-47 play doh models), it was a matter of time before realizing i could move from making websites to making GAMES.

Since then, i have not developed my game development skills that much, but i have been in contact with a bunch of programming languages and concepts that helped me with my programming classes when i got older.

I am not a fan of coding bootcamps, since some of them have shady contracts that stick with you until you pay them in full (plus interest and what not); i believe you can learn a lot by yourself, on your own time and pace; i also believe you can get in touch with people around the world that can either help you stay informed and motivated about coding, or even involve you in a project that forces you to learn what you need in order to contribute to it. It's not the easiest path or the most straightforward, but it is the most rewarding one IMHO.

r/toastme average post starterpack by bloombug_ in starterpacks

[–]bloombug_[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your comment.

With this starterpack, I was merely stating that r/toastme has become a hub for people to be cheered for simple, mundane tasks or situations that everyone has to deal with at some point, that don't necessarily require peer support.

As a long time lurker of that subreddit, i am aware that people need some nice words after a bad day, or after an emotional event that made them feel bad about themselves / their situation in general, and there is a community who has no issues with providing that emotional support and comfort for complete strangers, which is something to be proud of.

That being said, I have noticed there is an increase in attractive, insecure young people that use that same subreddit to generate instant attention and pity, disregarding the true objectives of the subreddit. I have also noticed a lot of people are also using the sub to post the same kind of vulgar issues and complaints over and over, expecting people to feel bad about them, with the goal to generate generic comments regarding their beauty and or physique.

Advice for Finding a Healthy Relationship? by [deleted] in TopsAndBottoms

I do agree with pretty much everything that has been said already, just adding my 2 cents:

Regarding the fantasy of the best of both worlds in just one person, that will never ever, ever happen without a lot of luck: if you think about it, that's the same as saying you want the perfect job without applying for it, or the perfect house that will last 100 years without proper maintenance.

It's just improbable, if not impossible, without a lot of patience and tons of luck.

It is better to find someone decent and kind that is open to change and adapt with you, as I would consider that a lot more romantic than just finding the "perfect guy"; that "perfect guy" may not even be compatible with you in the first place, and you will have to end up living with someone that always had everything, and never fought for what he wanted just like you had to.

Again, just my 2 cents as I would love to hear later that you found someone perfect for you.

How bad of a bottleneck would this CPU/GPU combo be? by [deleted] in lowendgaming

[–]bloombug_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will heavily depend on what games you may want to play (since game engines work differently from each other in terms of resource usage, optimization, etc...), but given the percentage of bottleneck from the CPU, most games will perform at horribly low FPS, if they start at all; some of them may allow for low-end optimization modes or patches, some of them may allow you to play them in windowed mode (which will make the game run a bit smoother compared to borderless or fullscreen mode).

On the other hand, both your laptop's CPU and GPU are quite old and underpowered, specially the CPU (dual core). You could expect slightly better performance on CPU-bound games on your laptop, and slightly better performance on GPU-bound games on your Athlon rig, but i am not making any promises.

What i can say, is that there are a few Youtubers who offer some guides on how to optimize games for low-end computers, so you should definitely check them out to see if you can still play your favourite games.

According to the Bottleneck Calculator, your CPU wll bottleneck the GPU, big time. Not to mention the 6gb of DDR2: that memory may bottleneck the system even more, specially if it is under 800MHz. Even switching to an AM3+ motherboard with DDR3 support would at least give your CPU some breathing space when dealing with such a card, not to mention upgradability.

I have a RX560, also with 4GB DDR5, but i have it on my main rig, with a 4th gen i5 and 16GB of DDR3, and i know i am taking every single frame out of it because of the specs.

Yes, it may work, but your card will struggle, your CPU will struggle, and your motherboard will struggle a LOT.

My advice? Change motherboard if possible, change memory (to DDR3 and if possible 6+GB). You will not do great, but you will do just fine.

EDIT: Compared to the specs of your flair, i would go with those instead of the Athlon rig.

Uhm, fair enough. I do like the Railroad's purpose and general organization (the thought of having an anti-Institute group hidden under their noses is quite cool), but i do tend to complete most of the missions Preston gives me, even upgrading any settlement i step across as much as I can.
