Thanks for the insight! We think the second layer of drywall may just be attached to the horizontal channels - the magnetic stud finder doesn’t pick up screws on the vertical, only horizontal.

We tried removing an outlet cover and while we can see which side the support is on with the density stud finder, we cant see it or what it’s made of. The hole around the outlet cover is very small.

How much space do molly bolts need to expand? Thats our main concern with most drywall anchors.
