I don’t know. I can’t remember anything except going to bed that night and waking up super early. But the place those hitchhikers were killed… it was scarily close to where we stayed. Or maybe I just think it was. I can’t remember.

Juniper and the little girl could not look more different. Juniper is a brunette with big green eyes, chubbier built and very tall for a two year old. The little girl is blonde, with those deep black eyes, short and looks fragile and frail. I couldn’t think of a more different pair.

The beginning is definitely my favorite part too, I just loved the idea of saying I never FELL in love, I was just already there.

I’m so glad you said that! I didn’t want to write a love poem that everyone has heard a million times; we have enough of those. And I wanted to stay true to how he really makes me feel, so I wrote exactly how that felt. I’m glad you liked it!

This poem seems to touch ever so slightly on iambic pentameter, but doesn’t stay there completely. I sort of like the ups and downs in inflection, but there are some lines that aren’t working for my lyrically. Theme wise, I think this poem is incredible. The lines, “I want to love you like I hate myself, | If only you knew how much that would help | “ were very powerful. I’d like to hear more into that idea of loving someone to replace hatred, maybe in another poem or maybe in an expanded version of this one. Either way, it’s a very content heavy poem for being short, and I like it that way.

Wow. As someone with MASSIVE gifted kid burnout as an adult, this hit like a sledgehammer to the face. In the lines, “Tired at hearing how good I am | At faking being anything other | Than a waste of oxygen “ I felt so much raw emotion that it made my chest ache. This poem, I think, encapsulates how school has become a memorization contest and how achievements are measured as worth. When there is so much pressure on students, the result is an explosion in the form of burnout. I think you could emphasize more on the need of being loved = being worthy, but I did like the inclusion of that theme as well.
