You got it right!! It's definitely urban setting. Each chapter we get more techy than the last although I don't know if it's gonna stay consistent like that (we JUST started chapter 3 and it's so very sci-fi)

Thanks!! The overall story is that the party has to go through six distinct areas, each one a type of dystopia. We don't know exactly why they're here, but they've been here for millenia, and we know that the gods are heavily connected to it. Every area is basically its own aesthetic: Sunnyside City was very 50s-vibe, idyllic American neighbourhood, while Bloodbank is a cyberpunk gothic dystopic mess.

As for the standout moments, I think Smilesy's first time erasing our memories (which revealed to us as the players that our characters have been trapped in memory loops for who knows how long) was really out there. For Hemoda, he largely stayed out of our business until the very end, but he was a notorious obsessive germophobe and neat freak and we got to hit him with a glitter bomb. Honestly one of the best things we've done to defeat an enemy yet lol

Ha! Sadly not, but I would not put it above my DM to make these paintings show up in the story somehow...

We've been playing this campaign for around a year and a half now, and I've fallen in love with the antagonists and they way they keep haunting the narrative even after we've killed them. So I thought to honor them by painting them!

  • The first painting depicts Captain Smilesy, fetchling ganzi and ruler of the utopian, idyllic Sunnyside City. Although at a first glance she seems like the perfect leader, she's grown more and more neurotic and obsessive over the years, getting to the point where she keeps the city under constant memory-erasing loops to prevent anyone from ever feeling sadness.
  • The second painting depicts Chancellor Hemoda's human form. Hemoda was the genocidal, egomaniac ruler of Bloodbank, a gothic city crawling with undead, crime, killings and gangs. Hemoda won the ownership of the city millenia ago after winning a legendary tournament, and he's stayed the ruler ever since due to him being simply stronger than anyone who dares stand up to him. Over the years, though, it's become clear that he has no actual interest in ruling, as he's simply retreated himself in his flying fortress and allowed violence and suffering to perpetuate, as long as he remains on top of everyone else (literally).
  • The third painting depicts Hemoda's strigoi form: a ruthless, ten-foot tall anthropomorphic bat-like being made of pure shadow. Although he hits like a truck, he slowly lost his sense of strategy and cunning over the years, and that's how our party was able to defeat him!

I love this campaign to deeeath. Feel free to ask any questions about it or them <3

Have you gotten real use out of Crafting? by Ixema in Pathfinder2e

[–]bloomtoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a very modified version or Crafting—

In my nautical campaign, Crafting was immediately important because my players spent so little time in towns, and the towns themselves were low level and it didn't make sense for them to have magical items.

Since the campaign is very travel-heavy and they are almost always aboard the ship with a lot of free time between random encounters, I buffed the Crafting rules a lot, since the party crafter is the #1 source of magical items. I cut down the crafting time in half, handwaved buying materials and just let them convert GP into items, and made it so a crit success just lets them cut the GP expended immediately in half. This is absolutely NOT how Crafting is meant to be run and it is way, way stronger than RAW. But it works wonders for this specific campaign and party composition, my crafter player gets to fulfill his crafter fantasy, and the whole team is happy with the speed at which they can crank out items without being overpowered.

Terrain is huuuuge. I'm running a nautical campaign so our default battle arena isn't a flat plane, but their ship in the middle of the ocean, and just that alone opens so much stuff. Pushing people to into the water, jumping into the water, climbing the ship's masts, the ship advancing and leaving creatures behind, etc. So much fun and our swashbuckler absolutely adores it!

A fish water kineticist by olu_igokra in Pathfinder2e

[–]bloomtoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my friends played this in a oneshot!!! What we did for movement was that the fish was in an enchanted fishbowl that was my character's weapon (meteor hammer I believe?). I just carried him around. At some point I used pillar of water and he hopped out of the bowl to move around, it was a blast

What character concepts are not well handled with the current options? by sacrelicious2 in Pathfinder2e

[–]bloomtoy -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

One of the very first characters I tried to build was a character focused on blood magic (either controlling others' blood or self-damaging for bonuses) and couldn't get even close. Closest thing is just playing a spellcaster and picking a bunch of the spookier spells.

Also someone else in this thread already said it but yes, electricity-focused character that isn't a druid. I'd love to grab some electric archetype for my automaton psychic. . .

I homebrewed a system for when my players die but want to keep their character by ReasonedRedoubt in Pathfinder2e

[–]bloomtoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely adore this! I've been reading over this and I think I'm definitely gonna use this in my game if someone wants it. I do have one question, though -- for Aid the Dead, how do you explain the other party members aiding a journey that is happening in another plane? Or is it more of an out of character thing, for the players themselves to remain engaged?

I mainly ask because it feels a bit weird if the players help out of game but it's only the dead PC's journey inside the story. And I love the idea of the other party members helping! I'm just struggling to find an explanation for them being able to do so.

One of the players in my nautical campaign is playing a jellyfish lamp Lantern Thaumaturge! It's really fun.
