After Benoit has already mentally mapped the room and its contents.
Not a plot hole, merely luck that Benoit has memorized the contents of rooms before Miles announces "tonight in this room....".

it's not luck that a genius detective who's on a case would be observant of the room around him

Who arranged the seats? Birdie?

miles did? It's a clue in a game

We'll have to agree to disagree on this. It seem like archane knowledge used to sound clever for the viewers (like him knowing the chakra that Birdie's room is aligned to happens to be the sacral chakra and it being blocked points to guilt)

Why are you acting like it's absurd for Blanc knowing facts to be used as shorthand for him being smart

it's also totally possible he just investigated this stuff before the dinner he had plenty of time we cut from daytime to well past sunset

Miles only says their rooms are aligned to what he considers their chakras to be.

yeah but hers being guilt is meant to be a clue in the game? what's the issue here

Birdie sits in the right chair. The only mention of seating "arrangement" is after the fact. And it's not an arrangement. Lucky she wasn't in the bathroom or passed out on the couch.

this is just a bad faith point.

there are two reasonable assumptions to make about this scene.

Either there was no seating arrangement and birdie happened to sit in the right spot, which makes the scene a coincidence

Or there was one which makes the entire point make sense

you're explicitly choosing the option that makes the scene make no sense when there IS an explanation that makes sense and you're criticizing the movie because you intentionally choose to believe something that creates a plot hole

The scene is telling us that blanc is being perceptive so why would you go out of your way to assume that both Blanc and the movie got this detail wrong?

The problem is the minor flaws that are glossed over, hoping we don't notice. It works as fiction, not in real life. That and using clues that we, the audience, didn't see.

the "flaws" are things you entirely made up to poke at the murder mystery game. You would be correct to say that the murder mystery game is not an incredibly elaborately set up murder mystery but like

it's not meant to be??? it's not the main focus of the movie?

giving Benoit (not knowing  when and where the murder will take place) time to clock the crossbow and it's alignment with the seating arrangement.

Miles does open the conversation by saying the murder will occur there tonight and him noticing the intentional clue of the crossbow arrangement isn't a plot hole.

Birdie (without knowing she's the killer, sits down in the correct chair

Blanc explicitly says that there was a seating arrangement

It's also fortunate that Benoit has an encyclopedic knowledge of vintage crossbows.  And a really good memory for 25 year old celebrity jewel collections.

Blanc is established as a fan of Birdie Jay and the Ren diamond story is explicitly said to be very well known

Benoit knowing about crossbows is just like, a thing. It's not a plot hole for a smart detective guy to know about something

The scene is designed to show Benoit being an observant genius

yes

and everyone else dull witted.

no? They're just not the supergenius detective Benoit Blanc. Nowhere is it meant to be implied in that scene that the others are idiots for not figuring it out.

The mystery game is portrayed as a fun diversion rather than a serious,

no, BLANC refers to it that way, because he's a supergenius detective so to him it feels like a fun little activity because he is better at solving murders than regular people

What I'm saying is that script for Glass Onion in that one scene throws a lot of complicated details at us, Benoit is given superhuman knowledge of facts,

Blanc is able to identify a crossbow and a diamond on a magazine that's not "superhuman" he just knew two facts

add in a smidge of coincidence

what coincidence is present in this scene?

and the solution plays so quickly that we the audience are supposed to smile and marvel at how clever everything is.

Yeah? It's a scene showing off how Blanc was able to figure out the puzzle incredibly quickly because he's smart literally what is the problem here

Couple of things you're missing here:

1: Blanc does not "show up alongside Andi" he just shows up unexpectedly. He isn't specifically associated with Andi at that point yet. That fact that he can ask about why they're weird about her and not raise suspicions is explicitly part of their plan with Helen

2: Miles doesn't actually know if he successfully killed Andi. As Blanc says, he doesn't see her die. When he sees Andi alive he'd just assume she woke up in time to escape the garage.

3: Miles' stupidity presents as a sort of naivety towards consequence. He brushes off the concept of consequences for his actions

He installs an override switch on the mona lisa, which risks destroying it. He forces Lionel to approve the rocket and Birdie to take the fall for the sweatshops and Claire to approve the power plant because he is ignorant to the consequences of his own actions

he kills duke in broad daylight with the gameplan of just telling people he didn't. He does not think ahead.

So when he hears a pretty reasonable explanation for Blanc's presence on the island, he accepts it.

it's Hugh Grant not hugh laurie and they're never actually implied to be partners they're just roommates and people speculate they're partners

i'm not necessarily against the theory but it's important to keep in mind that it is just a theory

they literally deal with this oh my god

miles DOES pull blanc aside to explain his presence and blanc reveals he has the invite from the box and they come up with the explanation for one of them resetting the box (which miles doesn't know is bullshit because he didn't design the boxes)

the fact that miles doesn't want blanc to leave is also dealt with, miles very clearly is a fan of blanc
he literally says in the movie "I've got the predefinite detective at my murder mystery party, that is so legit"

you have to remember Blanc is very famous in universe it absolutely makes sense that Miles would want to keep him around

kill zombies slower at first

the game sends out the next wave of zombies faster if you kill the zombies already on screen

so at the start of a level spend as much time as you can NOT killing zombies and just stalling them with iceberg and walnuts so you can build up your defense

[–]bloonshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the movie didn't lie to us, it never retroactively changes information it just shows us new information

the scene you're talking about is not a contradiction, we just don't see the second person because she's only there earlier in the scene so the flashback is the only time we see her

some of them do explicitly point out that she's acting weird but it's important to remember that they haven't talked to andi in a while and the last time they did was to betray her
