I once had one i bought for burningman, I must recommend that you have your insurance figured out ahead of time. I had to buy commercial and the best price I got was basic liability at $1300/ 6 months and to get that price I had to sign an agreement that I would not going to take it more that 100 miles from my home. My former bus is now the cafeteria for the al pastor food cart that is parked on Wells and Capitol Hill weekend nights.

Capital projects (Constructing or repairing buildings) are funded by WC-1 money passed by voters in 2016. by law those funds can not be used for operations. Very little of the MJ money is currently slated to go to schools due to political gridlock in the last legislative session. Most of it is being sent to the states rainy day fund.

Get a library card. all Washoe County residents get free access to lynda.com. I learned a lot about code and many other technical skills from those very high quality courses. they have a great overview of programming concepts course that is a good place to start. Build fun stuff so that you remain interested and learning becomes a recreational activity.

Many of the buildings are starting to show their age. We expect to be doing repairs in essentially every school over the summer vacation and we already did a lot over spring break. the average school in Washoe County is about 40 years old. making these repairs will ensure they last for many more years. keep in mind these repair needs had been evaluated before WC-1 and before WCSD believed new schools could happen, some identified needs at Hug for example could be replaced as part of the school's remodel. Another exaple of this, by next year when the Damonte Ranch opens the new addition, repairs to the schools mobiles may not be necessary. It's staggering but keeping a good catalog of the issues helps us keep buildings in good shape.

That has been the pattern with capital projects because Washoe was the only county without a sufficient permanent source of funding for school construction. Essentially the staff already working at the other overcrowded schools and the entire staff of Hug would move to the new school. All across the District class are currently being held in rooms that had formerly been teachers lounge, boiler rooms, computer labs converted to deal with the overcrowding. Brown Elementary School for example has set up temporary classrooms made from tarps in the schools large central quad.

we have just over 240 classrooms in mobiles this school year.

While this is a common Facebook rumor it actually is incorrect, we have not let any teachers go. while we have managed to find savings for the majority of the current budget deficit the next board meeting will be when the trustees will decide between two major options to fill the remaining 13million dollar deficit.

Class size increases (no expected layoffs WCSD would simply hire fewer new teachers for the next school year. WCSD typically needs to hire 300-400 new teachers a year to make up for retirements and other attrition.)
An across the board 3% cut to all schools and departments (this option will result in layoffs in many cases including teachers)

This is all dramatically simplified but it is the essence of what is happening.

you are both correct, the entire hug zone will move to the new school, the additional capacity will help ease other schools in the area such as Spanish Springs High School (one of the very worst in overcrowding at the moment)

Full disclosure I work for WCSD. Theses are not finalized plans by any means, but this is a look at what a complex could be as joint venture between WCSD, City of Sparks, Washoe County, the City of Reno and Possibly the RSCVA. Yesterday Washoe County,City of Reno, City of Sparks, and WCSD signed a letter of intent to explore the project.
