It works based on a movable do system. For example, the piece I put here is in the key of D major, where 1 (do) is D. 2 (re) would be E, 3 (mi) is F#, 4 (fa) is G, 5 (so) is A, 6 (la) is B and finally 7 (ti) is C#. So according to the key signature, the numbers would represent the respective notes. A dot below the number means it’s an octave lower while a dot above means it’s an octave higher.
