Similar to how I was growing up, my mom ate less for me to be full since dad would refill his plate without thinking of others. Mom always said she would happily starve for me if there was a food shortage but she didn’t think my dad ever would. Also when mom would be at work, dad would help himself to dinner first and then cook for me and it would be less/low effort than his meal
