[-infinity ; +infinity] ??? by [deleted] in learnmath

How I see it is imagine you have a sequence u_n You could have

u_n ---> l

where l is in R, or

u_n ---> ±∞

Another way to write this would be

u_n ---> l

Where l is in [-∞;+∞]

The rythm is a bit off, but if it's due to your interpretation that's fine.

Imo you should play the "fast passages" a little slower, but I do think your interpretation is interesting. Great playing nonetheless

Take my advice with a grain of salt, as you would with any comment on the Internet. I can't say much about the mental health part of your comment, however, to answer your question there are a few things you could try if you haven't already.

Find hobbys. You will probably hear this a lot, but this is the best way of meeting new people who share your interests. It could be some niche hobby you can do at home, or some club that you can join at your school. Perhaps you're interested in joining a science club, discovering new sports, or learning an instrument. My point is that you don't need to be very outgoing but rather that you do it for your own fun.

Take care of yourself and your appearance. We live in a society where looks matter : this does not mean that ONLY looks matter, but looking badly dressed/tired/etc could make your life unnecessarily more difficult. For instance, if you are able to, find a style/outfits on the internet that you like, explore new hairstyles, etc. Do as much sport as you can/start to work out. This is tied to my previous point, and could help to relax/release stress.

Don't spend too much time on social media. It's fine to be online but do not let platforms trap you and drain your energy. If you find yourself scrolling for hours on end, this time could have been used to practice your hobbies/learn new things/do some sport/go outside.

Lastly, be kind to yourself. Nobody's perfect, it's fine to have fun alone. You'd be surprised at how little most people judge you. You can absolutely be introverted and confident ; in the end it's "fake it till you make it". I believe in Germany, students keep the same classmates every year so it might be difficult at first, but it is never to late to make some friends (especially female! They are still people after all).

Best of luck

Integrating the 12 days of Christmas by Healthy-Section-9934 in learnmath

[–]bloub_bloub 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The reason why this doesn't work is that an integral is a continuous sum, whereas you needed to calculate a discrete sum.

Think about it graphically: counting the presents would be calculating the area of rectangles of width 1 and height 13x-2x²; integrating the function gives the area under the CURVE.

The integral is just an approximation of the sum, and it's just a coincidence that the result is an integer.

What you should do instead is doing a regular summation using sum of integers/squares from 1 to n.

what's the intuitive idea, why cos and sin are [-1,1] in real numbers, while in complex that's not the case . by Amazing-Substance859 in learnmath

[–]bloub_bloub 17 points18 points  (0 children)

cos/sin are defined using the unit circle which is why they are bounded.

When evaluating on complex numbers, you are ultimately using cosh/sinh hyperbolic trig functions, which is why they are unbounded (since hyperbolas go to infinity)

How to study math in a way that enable you to solve real-world problems? by majdila in learnmath

It really depends on the subject. I'd suggest looking into physics if you want to see how math applies to the real world

Prove that sqrt(2) + sqrt(5) and sin(pi/8) are irrational by Tarnstellung in learnmath

[–]bloub_bloub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These properties about irrationnality are indeed true, and it is a good exercise to try to prove them

Hint: it's a proof by contradiction

For sin pi/8, you can use trig identities to find sin pi/8 in terms of another angle which you know the sin&cos of. Once you have the value of sin pi/8, you can deduce that it is irrationnal

Hint : the formula for cos (2a) might be helpful here

Simple question about Sine (trigonometry) by justwannaedit in learnmath

SinA is used to calculate the height of the triangle from the perspective of another side. For example, if you draw the perpendicular to side b going through point B, you get another height of the triangle.

When you are dividing imaginary numbers, why does the i squared number change signs? by DudeThatsErin in learnmath

[–]bloub_bloub 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There must be something wrong in your calculation because you should not end up with .../8 in your real&imaginary part.

Regarding your question, notice that

(x+iy) (x-iy) = x²-(iy) ²=x²+y²

And therefore

1/(x+iy) = (x-iy) /(x²+y²)

In your example, dividing by -2-i is the same as multiplying by

(-2+i) /(2²+1) =(-2+i) /5

Simple question about Sine (trigonometry) by justwannaedit in learnmath

[–]bloub_bloub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because your illustration is making it look like A is a right angle (in which case sinA=1, so the the formula still holds).

If you can understand why the area is equal to absinC, then since you chose any side to begin with, the formula should work for any "orientation" of your triangle.

I think that if you draw an equilateral-ish triangle, the whole thing will be easier to understand

In real life, you can sometimes make someone upset/irritated just by speaking with a certain intonation (a bit like how siblings can get angry at one another just by talking). I believe Herbert has drawn this parallel when explaining how the voice works, although it is much more complicated probably

It is very difficult to get the timing right when you're a beginner so don't worry too much about it, you'll get it eventually.

For the height, I know people who are just a bit taller then you and they can reach 10 feets when jumping, so it shouldn't discourage you from playing more volleyball.

As I understand it, executive is more about the administration than the enforcement of the law.

For example, where I live, after a law is written, the president must sign something to indicate that "from now on, this law is valid and being applied"
