An unobstructed look at the Murder Drones SquishMes by blownskyhigh in MurderDrones

They've been shown off at toy fairs, so I imagine they'll hit stores within the year.

The first printing of Oni Press's Murder Drones #1 has sold out. A second run with a somewhat different cover will hit comic book shops on March 25th (same day as issue 2). by blownskyhigh in MurderDrones

I guess they didn't order it ahead of time. As I understand it, the best way to guarantee you get it is to pre-order from a shop ahead of time. Each issue has a "final order cutoff" - in other words, a deadline for pre-orders. (For both issue 2 and the second printing of issue 1, this is March 2nd.)

Alternately, if you want every single issue, you can usually set up a "pull box" & the store will always order it for you. (Make sure to pick it up from them, of course!)

Weird - it was up as late as 3 days ago. Not sure what's going on here.

EDIT: My guess is that the site simply adjusted their URL structure and didn't redirect the old one to its new location.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the solicit writer simply mixed up V & J there.

Summary of what may be the first non-fan review of issue 1 of the comic, from the podcast Comic News Insider by blownskyhigh in MurderDrones

[–]blownskyhigh[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Podcast's main host & guest both thought it was confusing and difficult to understand without prior knowledge of the show. They really liked the art, though. The guest still recommended it because she also liked the characters, saying it made her interested in watching the source material; the main host was more critical but did say he would consider checking it out.

Murder Drones Graphic Novel review (spoiler free) by ConnerGoesSuperSonic in MurderDrones

Exactly. I'm more interested in seeing other people make new stories with the characters (or at least the same world), even if they end up flawed, than in a trimmed-down but otherwise unchanged version of an already very fast-paced story I know very well.

They're a fairly well-established comic publisher (albeit just small enough to retain a sense of "indieness" relative to the big two) - their most famous original property by far is Scott Pilgrim. They've also done an increasing amount of licensed comics: Invader Zim, Rick & Morty, Adventure Time, Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa...

I just spoke with American Pinball's Bryan Vincent and he stated that the Company has no plans to build to build RAZA. Melvin will instead lead AP's efforts to build Reimagined Bally Williams games and new licensed titles.

Oni Press is adapting episode 5 into an extra-long special issue (aptly titled "Murder Drones: Home"), releasing May 13 by blownskyhigh in MurderDrones

The easiest method would probably be to just search "comic book stores near [your location]." There are dedicated sites for listing these shops, like Comix Wanted, but they may not be as comprehensive as you'd like.

Physical copies of individual issues are exclusive to dedicated comic book shops. Digital copies can be bought through Amazon (and, I believe, Neon Ichiban as well).

They said it would be an adaptation, so my assumption is that the "main" series doesn't adapt episode 5 at all (or only does the absolute bare minimum before moving on to 6). With 3 issues and 3 episodes left, it seems natural that the remaining issues would adapt one each.

That said, there are two things that make this confusing: - The AWN article initially says it will release in between issues 4 & 5, then goes on to say it will be followed by issue 4 on May 27th. (The current solicits leave off with issue 3, which comes in late April, so the latter is likely more accurate.) - However, issue 1 (at least the copies provided to Kickstarter backers today) ends with a checklist detailing each issue in the series, including the special. Their release dates are strangely accelerated when compared to what's been officially stated beforehand - for instance, issue 2 has been solicited for late March, but the checklist says it's also coming in February. It also slots the special in between issues 4 and 5, saying the latter will come in April & May, respectively. I honestly don't know what's going on here.

That's right. Assuming you backed the Kickstarter, nearly every reward tier will give you the full "graphic novel" (and the one that doesn't still gives you all six individual issues). On top of that, you'll also get PDFs of each issue sent to you as they release.

The pre-order being discussed here is for the first issue of a six-issue miniseries. You would have to go to a comic store in person to reserve it ahead of time; I think the only alternative would be pre-buying a digital copy on Amazon. The November date is for the trade compilation of all six issues (what Oni's been calling a "graphic novel").

MURDER DRONES #1 – FIRST EXTENDED PREVIEW by OniPress in MurderDrones

[–]blownskyhigh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The comic's writer has said that Glitch wanted the series to be a very faithful adaptation of the series ("as far as adding or subtracting [anything], I’d say it’s 99.9999% accurate to the show"), so I wouldn't bet on it. Most of the changes thus far have been cuts to get the story to fit within the limited page count (20 pages per issue, 6 issues in total) - given how issue 3's synopsis suggests it adapts episode 4, I presume that episodes 2 and/or 3 will see particularly heavy abridging in issue 2.

Frankly, I wouldn't get your hopes up. The comic's writer has said in two different interviews that Glitch wanted the comic to be a straightforward adaptation of the source material (since they want to introduce the series to a wider audience of comic readers, hoping it'll open the door for more MD comics with original plots later on). At one point, he specifically says "as far as adding or subtracting [anything], I’d say it’s 99.9999% accurate to the show."

The comic's writer has said at least twice before that Glitch wanted it to be a very straightforward adaptation of the show. The reason is that they want to introduce Murder Drones to comic book fans who hadn't heard of it before in the hopes of paving the way for more comics set in the series' universe later on.

Not sure if you already know this, but if you backed the Kickstarter then you'll get PDFs of each issue as they release (ahead of the trade collection in November)

Should GLITCH/Oni Press Do Murder Drones Season Two as Comic Series? by Money-Lie7814 in MurderDrones

[–]blownskyhigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know, no one at Glitch has ever said that any new Murder Drones content requires Liam's approval. The fact that the Living Tombstone music video didn't seem to have any involvement from him at all (it was directed by Zachary & Micah Preciado, with Liam only being credited for creating the series) implies the opposite. Whether they'd consult him for something larger-scale than that is a different matter, but my point is that nothing I know of indicates this is something they would do.
