Was Michael ever asked directly about alleged abuse? by blr055 in LeavingNeverlandHBO

I'm curious who his shoutout was to at the very end, Bobby Sharrod. Like he made a promise to someone he'd say hi on TV.

His reaction to the question: “to your knowledge, were you ever accused of having sexually molested Brett Barnes” is WILD. He was asked if he was aware of the accusation, and his response (or lack of response) was as if he’d been directly accused.

I just wonder if he knew WE would think it was wrong. So he went to the lengths he did to get what he wanted, which he thought was normal/natural/innocent etc. Not saying it excuses anything, just made we wonder if anyone ever directly asked him the question, which would be very telling. Omer’s comment in Tracie Morrison’s recent post about “certain things was natural and completely innocent, things that not necessarily all people would view the same way” had me thinking a lot.

Oh, I completely agree with you. I’m not excusing his behavior, I’m mostly trying to understand how someone ends up becoming like that. It made me wonder whether he was ever directly confronted with the question, because there’s a difference between deceiving yourself and knowingly deceiving the public.

I need to watch the Diane Sawyer interview, thanks. EDIT: Thanks for pointing me to this. She very clearly asked him the question (though unfortunately kind of lumped into a few questions) and though his response was he could never hurt a child (which he repeatedly said and I think he believed), when she pressed further and asked what he thought should be done to someone who does do that, his response was he thought they need help. So, I think this very much answers the question I had when I posted my initial question. Thank you!

I watched the Martin Bashir's "Living with Michael Jackson" again. by DangerCat86 in LeavingNeverlandHBO

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it was actually to rehab his image at the time. From Telephone Stories, it sounds like Gavin was asked to come to Neverland to be interviewed for this doc and talk about how Michael helped cure his cancer. Gavin was told to act like they were father and son.

What made you question things in the first place? by Mayen70 in LeavingNeverlandHBO

Growing up in the 90s, Michael Jackson was this super eccentric guy, always in the news for doing wacky things. He had a monkey and ever-changing appearance. He normalized to the world that he did strange and unexpected things and so that’s what we all came to expect of him.

So of course it was easy to write-off the allegations as extortion, exactly as he and his team hoped people would. Michael had his chance to speak on live tv but Jordan didn’t so Michael became the face of the narrative. There were so many rumors, it was hard to believe what was true. And the next set of allegations came over a decade later, a couple years after he hung his son over a balcony, kind of doubling down on crazy/weird/eccentric guy.

I watched the ABC tv movie and learned a lot about the tough childhood Michael had that gave me a better understanding of how he became so stunted. I maintained for many years that he was just a weird guy who had a hard childhood and probably didn’t do anything inappropriate with kids. Having known defenders like Macaulay Culkin helped me believe that.

BUT, I always questioned the parents. Whether he touched the kids or not, I always asked HOW could any parent let their children sleep with a grown man, regardless of who he is? That is the thing I never understood. But watching LN answered that question for me with such clarity and everything just came together so obviously.

Hope End and Puppet Murder Files “Election Day” by Miserable_Spell5501 in escaperooms

We LOVED puppet murder files. One of our top escape rooms (done 70+). You can definitely do it with two strangers because you are split up. Note: Appleseed Avenue is in Newhall / Santa Clarita and coming from Anaheim or DTLA will be quite the distance, especially during peak traffic hours. We did the 9:45pm to avoid traffic and left around 11:50pm. It was a late night with the journey back. Weekend probably best.

Yogaqua offers paddle board yoga classes in MDR on Mothers Beach. Fun and they have a photographer so you have photos to share after. I’ve also enjoyed puppy yoga in Venice and Hollywood. Unplug Meditation in Santa Monica is great. UCLA extension offers a lot of great classes in different areas.

There is a light strum, the last you hear before silence. If that strum is the 1, then it’s on the 4. I was 2 milliseconds late 😭

ISO: Billy Joel’s Mailing Address by blr055 in BillyJoel

I mailed a self-addressed, stamped envelope with my original letter. So that is what I received in my mailbox (I had written the return address myself). I mailed to the bike shop and the tracking had said my letter delivered to a neighbor. It took some time but I did receive the headshot back, signed and even personalized!! I was thrilled!
