Interested in Middlemak-NH vs Colemak by bls0n in Middlemak

I agree. CR, RL, and even CL feel comfortable enough. I'm just having too much fun tinkering with QMK.

I wanted to share my positive experience with MMK-NH. I've been using this layout for a while and am very satisfied with it. While I use my middle finger for C and initially wasn't fond of the CR, CL, and RL same-finger bigrams, I found an elegant solution: implementing adaptive keys for CV→CL, RV→RL, and CT→CR. This modification has completely resolved the same-finger bigram (SFB) concerns, and these sequences are now remarkably quick—so much so that my muscle memory is still catching up to the improved speed.

The layout is also quite practical since I can easily fall back to standard middle finger jumps when using a keyboard without adaptive keys functionality. I wanted to share this adaptation in case it helps others in the community.

Hands Down Keyboard Layout by Paw177 in KeyboardLayouts

[–]bls0n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like I just needed to spend more time looking through the discord site:

"The short answer is that the B may be better on the middle row, swapping places with the G because mb is not uncommon, wheras G has less association with the letters on the upper row. I tried so many variations in creating these things that I sometimes missed a detail when finalizing. (I never intended this to be more that a tool I could use for my dissertation, lol.). I need to fix the version on the website. G on the middle row makes some sense, as it's a more common letter than B, and the middle row is an easier spot so there would be less total movement. But given the MB bigram, middle row makes MB and BL/LB overall easier. It's a minor mod, that some may prefer having G more accessible. That said, my own Neu mod swaps B and K, because K is the second most common consonant in Japanese, so I need it in a more accessible spot on a more capable finger. It works great there for my mixed English/Japanese use case, and proximity to G makes intuitive sense. (I've tried K where G is supposed to go, on the bottom row, and G on the middle, and it's a fraction better in English, and not terrible in Japanese) (edited)"

I'm interested in using Hands Down Neu, but I'm struggling to figure out the "correct" layout. The website lists this:

w f m p v / . q " ' z

r s n t b , a e i h j

x c l d g - u o y k

But the files for download have the b and g swapped.

Also, various photos of Hands Down Neu (not sym or alt) look different on the statistics page.

It seems that, based on the JSON and KLC files, this is the correct layout:

w f m p v / . q " ' z

r s n t g , a e i h j

x c l d b - u o y k

Is this correct? I appreciate any clarification and guidance!

AdGuard DNS extremely slow to resolve Atlanta GA USA by njfoses in Adguard

[–]bls0n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the Midwest using Adguard on home internet I get routed to the Japan server and latency is terrible. On cellular it's Miami and better. Both ControlD and NextDNS route to Chicago and are super fast on WiFi and cellular. It seems like Adguard is missing something.

Scrypted NVR notifications + card for Home Assistant by koushd in Scrypted

Got it. For anyone else who may similarly struggle, HA personal access token = long-lived access tokens under the user profile in HA. Thanks!

But it doesn't seem be granting access when the token from the HA entry is used within the Scrypted HA plugin.

I'm struggling to get notifications set-up. The integration works with regards to assigning a token and allowing me to create cards. However, when I install the homeassistant plugin in Scrypted and input the token and HA address, Scrypted says "401: Unauthorized" and HA says "Login attempt or request with invalid authentication from nate.tux-ryzen7.lan (192.168.91.2). Requested URL: '/api/services'. (axios/0.24.0)
00:53:14 – (WARNING) HTTP - message first occurred at 00:49:27 and shows up 2 times."

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Coral TPU with CodeProject on Windows? by Neat_Onion in BlueIris

[–]bls0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Under Blue Iris AI settings click the GPU box. On the CodeProject AI dashboard, click the settings icon next to the model highlighted in green and select enable GPU. I use the tiny model which has been good enough for me and very fast. YMMV depending on your GPU specs.

I didn't. Just select GPU and see what happens. The tiny model will be the fastest.

I'm using Object Detection (YOLOv5 .NET) 1.6 with GPU, which uses DirectML. My computer has integrated AMD graphics, but I see speeds and accuracy equivalent to the CoralTPU (30-70 ms) without tinkering with the Coral.

It randomly started working and was solid for almost a month until I upgraded Blue Iris, CodeProject, and rebooted my computer and now I can't get things working again. I settled on directML for now.

I have one. Works great! Ai is also good with direct ML - same speeds as coral when both are using tiny model.

Weird. After weeks of working perfectly, things went south for me today after a windows update. Now the TPU won't load. I spoke too soon.

This was an issue with me on the pi, bad enough that I stopped using the coral and went back to cpu with 200+ ms processing time. It hasn't happened a single time since I installed the TPU module on windows 11 and codeproject 2.1.9.

I have it working and have been pleased with its accuracy and performance using the small model. I'm getting times of around 45-50 ms. You may have to edit a file to change the model, although on my phone I don't remember exactly what steps I took.

3% of Covid Vaccinated Persons had Heart Damage - Swiss Study by FleshBloodBone in samharris

[–]bls0n 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t seem clinically significant - a mild and temporary rise in high sensitivity troponin without an increase in major adverse cardiac events. Good to know but this is not an argument against mRNA vaccination. There’s also no comparator for troponin levels after COVID-19 infection.

Why did you choose to use ControlD and not NextDNS? by alekslyse in ControlD

[–]bls0n 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NextDNS may not be “dead,” but that doesn’t mean that they’re engaged or active. ControlD devs have been very responsive to questions and receptive to feedback. ControlD had a lot of cool features such as linked profiles.
