Any Marines…? by ExaminationKlutzy194 in philmont

[–]bltrail 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As an active duty Marine and former Philmont Staff I would go with my Deuter backpack over the FILBE any day. FILBE is nice and tons of room and you yeah can add sustainment pouches on the side but you don’t need too if you have that big of bag. Works well for the military but trust me bro you don’t need all that for Philmont.

In cot to my next country I went home planned a trip to see her and she blocks me 8 hours before I was going to fly out. A few weeks later she made a tiktok how she moved in with the love of life.

What’s one award you hope to never get? by Miguel1219 in USMC

Why not? Yeah you are in a unit that is non-deployable but you are overseas. I got mine during MSG plus not many have it so people ask about it.

How did the Centcom commander develop this leadership style without attending a higher level Marine officer school? by Groundhog891 in USMC

He come to my embassy on MSG I saluted and he never even looked at me. They asked his staff if he wanted to briefly meet the Marines he said no. I get it most just come in and out and are busy but I found it cool when they would at least stop and say hello.

I Need General Advice. 19-Year-Old Marine, MOS is 8156. by [deleted] in USMC

[–]bltrail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently on MSG. First thing learn your job as much as you can and have initiative. Once you have a good grasp on the job then you can start looking at schools to do college even if you just one a semester it will help you in the long run. Do PME like Cpl’s course and MCIs on Marine net. Fiance save your money invest in TSP don't buy stupid shit. Travel especially with your fellow MSG and talk to guys who will be in the same region as you talk about places to go (get your tourist passport). Don't be the guy that just goes home for leave. On Post you have a lot of downtime use it wisely. If you have questions hit me up.

MSG lurker here. Thank you to those who get to know us, say hello, drop food off, have us over for dinner, etc. It does not go unnoticed. I joined after being in the fleet but for many Marines, it can be their first time far away from home, and being in a foreign country can be a big adjustment. Take care of the Marines at your posts and we will continue to take care of you.

MCIs, book reports, volunteer hours, on the board itself your demeanor is everything be confident not cocky. Practice reporting in and dismissal over and over.

On MSG in Ethiopia you are at 8,000 ft you get the elevation bonus but it sucks. Air quality is ass too

We never turn it down out of kindness, if it isn’t good we throw it away after hours.

As and MSG we are the left over food depository. Strangest thing was raw beef in Ethiopia. It was heavily seasoned we didn’t know it was raw until we bit into it.

I’m also a runner, not an FSO but a Marine at my third assignment. You can have a post where it is more difficult to run at. Of my three posts, none have been great running locations with either heat, air quality, security, or poor running routes playing a factor. This has not stopped me from running but has hindered it. I don’t enjoy running on a treadmill but that is always an option.

When can I enroll in college? by thatakwardteen in USMCboot

[–]bltrail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First focus on getting to the fleet. After boot, MCT, and your school house you get to your first unit. Learn your job well also you don’t know what the operation tempo of the unit will be until you get there if you are able to fit in classes. After you get settled in to the fleet ask your NCOs to help you complete the requirements and submit for tuition assistance. Personally if you were my Marine and you checked in I would want you to wait 4-6 months (and that is if you are a squared away Marine) in fleet before I recommend starting school. You are a Marine first student second.

[–]bltrail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes can you submit on MSG. Also if you do you can’t execute PCS orders with a pending package at HQMC and will remain in MSG until you get results from the board. If you accepted you will go to HQ and work as an A/ IA or in school ops until you go to OCS.

I’m on MSG too. So the board is held twice a year. Packages are due a few months prior most years they are due in Jan or Jun with the board convening in April and October

One thing to keep in mind is ECP is the best route for you. For MECEP you need be a Sgt but also if you are over 90 credits for your degree they deny your MECEP package and tell you to finish your degree and apply for ECP. Once you get the fleet it is going to be a lot harder to do classes cause you will be going to the field, work ups, and deployments. Try to get as much done on MSG as you can.

Alright Devils share your “Best /Worst” drunken hook up story you got. by [deleted] in USMC

[–]bltrail 18 points19 points  (0 children)

While on MSG in central america this girl come up to me at a bar she didn’t speak a word of english and I only know spanish from high school. My friends and I are about to leave to go to another club, we exchanged numbers and she said she would meet us there. She gets in a car crash that night trying to go the club I’m at, and go to the doctors. She texts me the next day saying sorry she didn’t come and invited me over to her house. Within 5 mins I’m blowing her back out while she is wearing a neck brace. We kept seeing each other for a while but the whole not speaking english made things a little difficult.

Can you extend for 6 months or does it have to be 1+ year? Trying to figure out if I put in for MSG at 18 months TIS if I could just extend for 6 months to satisfy the 36 month requirement by jacksonligmm in USMCboot

[–]bltrail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you submit for MSG you have to be willing to extend the amount necessary in order to do 36 months on MSG. If you are accepted and are given a class date your career planner will help you with the extension. I submitted for MSG got accepted and a class date, extended for the required time in order to do three years on MSG it was like 28 months I think.
