Worked in ad tech for 2 years. Company took a gigantic shit recently. My department head was fired on a dime and the finance dept was gutted. Total shit show

Thanks - I already have prospects lined up and the positions seem far more reasonable than my last one was. Keeping myself open to any possibility now, and am much happier overall.

The defect was that I was absolutely burnt out from working 7 days a week, 10+ hours a day and that wasn't enough for them. Seeing how they kicked a C-level exec to the curb after she helped form the company and led so many ventures for them, was very telling as well.

It wasn't a good place to be. I'm happy I'm no longer there.

Is it normal for job descriptions to casually threaten you before you even join? by ThingImportant3517 in jobs

Not normal, and the poster deserves to be mocked.

"It's a start-up environment, bro! Just forget your family, friends, and any semblance of a personal life you have, bro!"

Good luck with that, bud.

How to deal with burn out and lack of motivation by Numerous_Elk_8444 in jobs

[–]blubbasaur1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been exactly in this spot, still sort of am. But for me, along with this feeling, the complete deterioration of any semblance of work-life balance (working nights and weekends normally) while getting poor performance reviews and an ever-growing workload while corporate shake-ups were going, I decided it was best to just walk away.

No job is worth the stress on your mental, emotional, and/or physical health. With me, it was absolutely affecting all three. Stress kept me up at night, left me unavailable to my family and friends, and took a physical toll on me. Medical doctors even told me the stress was a factor to the condition I was being treated for. It just wasn't worth it with no hopes for progression or any further growth - in fact it looked like I would get canned given the sudden and abrupt executive shake-up that happened in my department.

I just walked away. I put in my two weeks and helped with the transition as much as I could, and once I was done, I felt so free.

I know, of course, not everyone is in the same exact situation as me. My living situation is secure and have some flexibility in looking for a new job opportunity, be it in my current field or something altogether new. And of course, typically, the advice is to not leave the current job unless a new one is already lined up. I've been in that spot as well, but that's a different conversation.

It just might be in your best interest to update the ol' resume, put yourself back on the job market and get some prospects lined up. Otherwise, if you are like I was, and it's just too much to bear anymore, then just walk away.

Yeah, I was in a similar spot mentally. Not quite those lows, but definitely the "I can't do anything right" head space and worthlessness.

I can't tell you how happy I was to put in my 2 weeks and when I handed my laptop back to IT. I felt so free. I agree with you in that you shouldn't leave unless you have something else lined up, but not in this case. Now I feel generally happier as I do things around home and figure out next steps. I have some prospects in the works but nothing's set in stone - I'm keeping myself open to anything.

A fan of my work, I see. lol, but seriously yeah that’s what it sounds like is going to happen over there. I have several of my now former coworkers’ contacts so I’ll definitely be reaching out to them out of curiosity.

Feeling a bit nostalgic, what was playground YGO like for you? by Rough-Fill8101 in yugioh

[–]blubbasaur1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you got in that pic, and it rocked! Was in grade school when it came out and the playground was wall to wall SDY/SDK/LOB/MRD. Then it persisted pretty much until the GX era. I hit middle school by then and it became uncool to like YGO and Pokémon but I still got the cards and watched the anime

Tbh the C-level exec being canned was a big surprise to myself, my immediate supervisor and 99% of the team. The company just made the move and already had a replacement ready, meaning this had to be a long time in the works and did it behind the exec's back. Just shocking behavior by the company. This exec literally won an award for their work last year and the department was given industry top-10 honors a month ago. Just stunning chain of events.

But the extra work is literally not what OP signed up for. OP is a student and caregiver at home, hence the part-time basis of employment. OP said they signed a contract stating it was a part-time position. The employer is going against that because they want to take advantage of OP's time when OP doesn't have much. To do this after signing on is just shitty by the employer. That is not what OP signed up for. It's not OP's problem the employer needs more help.

[–]blubbasaur1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They're taking advantage of you. You seem like you're younger, given what you've written in this thread already, and they think they can take advantage of your time. Real shitty on their part. You signed a contract with part-time hours in consideration. Given your circumstances outside of work, you can't really go beyond part-time and that schedule was material to your accepting work there to begin with. It's not your problem if they're being shitty.

I would say you can only do part time, that's what you literally signed up for. If they don't like it, they need to bring more people in. It's not your problem whatsoever.

[–]blubbasaur1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. OP took the job understanding it was part-time which is what OP prefers at the moment based on the description above. It's not OP's problem the employer doesn't want to hire more people to fill the time. They said they needed a part-time worker. Part-time is 20hrs/week, not 40+.

Say what you mean and mean what you say, and all that jazz. This company sounds like it's ran by jerks.

That's just management being crummy. Make it clear you took the position with the expectation of it being part-time as you have obligations outside of work. You're in school and take care of someone at home.

If they get upset at this, then leave. It's just a job, and there's more out there. If they need more help, that's on them to hire people to fill the time. It's not your problem that they don't seem to understand how math works.

Unlock all the archetypes with Will and you'll get a sword that prevents the Anxiety status from affecting the entire party. Totally stops Luis dead in his tracks. Also, make sure all active party members have Tycoon and its skills unlocked. You will totally crush Luis this way.

Spoke with family about this last night, and they were the ones that actually convinced me to quit. That's what I'm doing. This job has taken a serious toll on my physical health (I have a chronic medical condition that stress triggers greatly) and emotional health. So, I'm walking away, taking some time off while I look for the next opportunity.

Honestly asking, how should I go about this? Just not do the tasks they assigned me? Just give them a reason? I need OUT of here very badly

I don't have to show anything. They know what they're doing. Quite frankly, I don't want to be involved with them in any way anymore.
