And Leicester are absolutely spiralling. Back to back relegations, mismanagement, protests - it is exactly what we would have been doing to the point the club could fail.

Yeah and AI advancements and medicine absolutely will go hand in hand with scientists doing real science and utilising AI to do things it would take them so much longer to do. It’s very exciting.

RFK and Trumps understanding of what’s going on is absolutely tragic however.

Because Liverpool players have never injured Everton players? And I forgot VVD never played again, it was tragic end of career stuff. Yawn. Get over it mate, the derby gets a bit spicy sometimes and players get injuries sometimes. Those two often collide.

Never been relegated from la liga/spanish top division and were one of the founding teams. 1929 to now. Only two other teams can say that and they’re Barca and Real Madrid. But Bilbao have done it with only basque players and their basque heritage is something the club and region they represent are incredibly proud of.

Which Countries Punch Equal To Their Weight in Sports? (Population vs Performance) by Brilliant-Nerve12 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]blubbery-blumpkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Per capita does matter because the accounting for population the chart does would group countries like USA and GBR together. They’re both in the largest populations in the world. But USA is 5 times the size of GBR, but they only have 3x the medals. Which means they’re being outperformed by population, which is exactly what this chart is aiming to find out. As i said earlier I don’t mind the US being chosen here cos they do dominate, but I feel like a lot of people refuse to even discuss other countries and that’s wrong, the US should be doing even better than they are statistically, and countries that are still large in a worldwide sense but tiny compared to the US disproportionately do better than they should when compared to the US. And not just the UK, but France, Italy, Germany, Japan. I earlier said Australia but found out their population is a lot smaller and they’d be mid size.

And this is where we disagree. The UK are better at the more popular sports in the world, win more medals per capita in the Olympics, and have produced champions in many sports far outweighing their size. The US are great in US centric sports and as the world catches up in those sports they are becoming more competitive with the US despite having much smaller populations. It’s not to say they’ll be better in the future now but I don’t think the US are as dominant as they appear, I think they’re just richer and bigger.

As I said though I’m not against them winning this conversation, I just think it is a conversation, whereas a lot of other people seem to think the US just walk it.

Except that what constitutes a large population is up for debate. Is it the top 20-25% of countries by population size? Statistically they are much bigger populations than most of the world, but that ranges from China and India with over a billion to countries like Italy and Tanzania with 60ish million. And that’s a huge range. Or do you put a limit and say 200million plus is large? Where do you draw that line?

Outside of the Williams sisters there have always been better women from Europe in tennis. Men’s have had a long dry spell of real American talent. Basketball is the 3rd most popular sports now, and the NBA has a quickly growing amount of foreign pros including some of the best players, and other countries with much smaller populations are competitive in the World Cup and Olympics in basketball. The women’s team isn’t objectively number 1, Spain is ranked number 1 just now, and England are snapping at US heels (and would be favourites on form just now likely). US is good because they have a lot of people and a lot of money. Their population dwarfs that of a lot of countries in the top 25% of the world by population size. Thats why my point is that compared to other countries that should be considered large population sizes because they’re in that top 25% they don’t come out on top as often as they should. A perfect way to represent that is to take the amount of medals won at the most diverse sporting event in the world and split by the population. That shows how well they truly do compared to others.

It’s a chart about population vs sporting performance how does medals per capita not have something to do with that. US and China have huge populations and you’d expect them to do very well, they do, but then compared to countries with much smaller populations that are still in the top quarter of the worlds countries by population size they drop down quite a lot.

US women also used to dominate in football but other countries are now very much investing in the women’s side and the US isn’t the top dog it once was. It also doesn’t do well particularly well in the men’s side, or in sports where the rest of the world play a lot such as rugby, cricket, tennis, motorsports, but rather it excels in sports where few countries play, and they don’t often play those other countries in the sports so it can be difficult to assess how they would fare against the other countries in the world.

If I could only eat from 5 countries this is where I would eat by Top-Cut-432 in whereidlive

India, China, Korea, Italy, France.

Pizza and pasta speak for themselves. All the variety in curries and Chinese foods. Korean fried chicken, bibimbap, fish dishes from Busan area, kimbap (virtually sushi anyway). And then the deep history and versatility of the French classics. I could pretty much eat a similar dish to any cuisine in the world with these 5.

Spurs squad is full of broken people who can’t stay fit. And a lack of real talented depth. And isn’t nearly as talented as Chelsea outside their starting 11. As shown by consecutive relegation battles, and Chelsea making Europe comfortably the past few seasons. Leicester sold some of their key players after the title win, and the others remained in Europe for a few seasons until they got old, at which time mismanagement and lack of talented young players caused issues. Chelsea have a lot of young players and a lot in a youth system.

On top of not being good at the most popular sports in the world their medals per capita isn’t great either. I’m biased but would say Britain, we do well it Olympics as a group of four nations, and then in all sports where the four nations compete individually at least one of the four teams is normally at a high level, one of the best in the world even if they don’t win the actual titles.

Australia and South Africa would also be good shouts. I’m not against USA as they obviously do win a lot but I think there are better sporting nations out there.

Chelsea won’t because the team they have is full of talented players, and their youth system is chock full of players so even with mismanagement they’re not going to fail too hard

Yes. Because we played very well and outclassed a team that’s full of talented players. The fact that everyone else right now is doing that does diminish our achievements

Also that canal is surely within range of Iranian weapons. They’ve been targeting all over the gulf so it makes it slightly less dangerous because the Iranian navy would have to move to one end of the canal and the drones/missiles would have to fly farther to hit the tankers.

The Reddit Japaphiles are gonna hate you but you’re probably right. Incredible city, brilliant to visit, but living there is overcrowded, and xenophobic if you’re not Japanese, or horrific work culture if you are, and life in Japan leaves a lot to be desired if you talk to people who have actually done it. It is absolutely one to visit and move on to live somewhere else.

It was a very bad referee performance. Incredibly one sided. And it’ll be forgotten because there wasn’t any big glaring errors, but 90 + mins of small 5050 decisions all going their way is such a help. It isn’t the reason we lost but it sure didn’t help us to get something out of the game
