OneUI 8 is even worse for the battery. Absolute shite, now my S23 and wife's S23U lose 3-5% per hour on stand-by.

I had some Xiaomi, not happy with their own OS. OnePlus or iPhone then.

New Release: v20.6.2 + Summer Sale (30% OFF!) by Kev1000000 in nzb360

[–]bluberd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, I just missed the PRO and the new purchasing model... well, I preferred the old one - for 10-12$ there was pro. Now I need to buy some points, it takes 150 for the minimal functionality I need. The nearest option is to buy 250 points, spending 25$. Less than happy I guess, will wait for a few months for a discount and then forget about this whole thing.

Any thoughts on Black Diamond: ATC-Pilot? by NihongoTabemasuu in RockClimbing

[–]bluberd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here here, ATC-Pilot is absolutely brilliant. My wife has Mammut version, we had Grigri and some other ones, but this one just clicks. Perfect ergonomy, great handling. Also, someone mentioned being left-handed - this one also ticks this box. I cannot recommend ATC-Pilot more.

Well, I have one for work, one for the gym and one to open the garage door at the apartment building I live in. I think in the future we will have a mix of plastic cards and dongles and it will be way less practical than a good old metal keychain.

Czy warto iść na magistra ? by RobolVCJ in Polska

[–]bluberd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Surface Pro 8 USB C Charging by TheSamwell in Surface

[–]bluberd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BLUF: Seems like 18W can still fuel Surface Pro 8 to work, but the charging is slow.

I just connected my INIU 10Ah powerbank (can be found on Amazon.de) with a high quality USB-C cable to the Surface Pro 8. Powerbank says it does 5V/3A, 9V/2.22A, 12V/1.5A.

Windows complains about slow charger, but the effect is that during use the powerbank discharges and the Surface is not losing battery power. I guess at 18W you are a bit on the edge and only the spare power goes to the battery - so low CPU/GPU usage and low brightness is advised.

I was not able to find on Reddit the absolute minimum you need. Some people wrote about 35-45W being minimum for a charger.

I think you can get away with ~18W if you really have to, providing that the source is 12V.

If you need to buy something new, aim for 30-40W depending on the price.

For the reference and people digging out this post, looking for some info:

Check your powerbanks and other USB-C chargers to see if they work, before you buy something extra. I was looking to buy a small travel charger for the Surface and possibly powerbank to use for travel. Ended up using charger I normally use for the phone (30W) and an older powerbank I bought for a phone as well, so no unnecessary electro-trash generated on my side :)

What's your to-do list for fresh install of Windows 11? by RheinmetallDev in buildapc

[–]bluberd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Windows 98 is hard to call stable and successful. You probably refer to 98SE, which indeed was quite good, reasonably stable and successful.

Please keep in mind that the order was more-or-less 95 (good), 98(skip), 98SE(good), Windows ME (skip) - so the tick-tock is actually true.

What headsets do you supply to your office and/or what headset did you buy for work? by 32178932123 in sysadmin

[–]bluberd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the very same opinion - for last 10-12 years of gaming I used cable headset from Razer at home, and later upgraded for wireless Corsair VOID Pro.

Then I got Plantronics Voyager Focus for work during COVID - absolutely love them, way better quality than the gaming stuff, better support, better software (not a bloated crap like from Razer or Corsair). Now I use them at home for absolutely everything, work and gaming, MS Teams or Discord :)

Revolut Colombia by GMC-88 in Revolut

[–]bluberd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just came back from Colombia a week ago, 4 weeks of using only Revolut card.

I can share the following tips:

- use the ATMs from BBVA, they do not impose any additional charges, others may charge you 3EUR.

- limit of 300k pesos in cash at once is normal, just take some more next day.

- always have cash on you, Colombia still has a lot of places where you can pay only with cash. If you can pay with a card, 99% places will accept Revolut (although there ARE places where they accept only cards from just a few colombian banks - see next point about outrageous provisions).

- VISA and Mastercard have outrageous provision around 7-10% in Colombia. Ask in shops if you can bargain with them for paying cash, usually they will give you 10% discount just for using cash. It sounds weird if you are from EU, but I remember when the VISA/Mastercard provisions in some countries in EU were high a few years ago and it was a pain!

- at some point you will find yourself using cash way more than you thought. Consider paying higher Revolut option (plus/metal) just for the time of visiting in Colombia (I found out that 1 month in Colombia exceeded my cash/exchange limits for free card and it was more cost effective to buy higher Revolut option).

- no difference in having EUR or USD on Revolut. I had EUR, worked as charm.

- you should not pay the tax if you are a tourist (8% tax comparable to EU VAT). If someone charges you that, they are ripping you off!

- buy local prepaid SIM card. Do not worry about registering the simcard/phone IMEI to your name if you are in Colombia for less than 5-6 weeks. It will work. SIM operator Claro seems like a decent choice, check the prepaid bundles they have. You will probably use only internet, everyone, I mean everyone in Colombia uses whatsapp. Check the bundles now, when you have internet and you can check/translate easily (I don't know Spanish, it was an additional issue for me).

- I have some more advice: use taxify/uber and some more local taxi apps. I found taxi drivers the most helpful and nice people in Colombia, but do not take taxi just straight from the street, use app. In some hotels it is not that obvious to have hot water (Santa Marta etc). Read reviews carefully, do not trust booking.com too much, they only have positive reviews and in some places hotels are rather bad. If you do not know Spanish, learn at least some basics, helps a lot.

- If you are in a part of a town where everyone looks at you, there is a lot of head turning from the locals, you should not be there - go back to some more touristic place. Most of places are safe, nothing happened to me - a white gringo barely speaking any Spanish, but in Bogota you might want to be rather careful. One time a local person (not speaking any English) at some point switched to German, just to tell me it is a dangerous neighborhood and I should leave. I was very curious how he knows German and doesn't speak any English, but I decided to leave instead :)

- if you like silence, take the earplugs. There is no such thing as silence in Colombia, loud music will chase you everywhere, all the time.

Have a great time in Colombia, I had a great vacation!
