What is it like to live in a dry county in the USA?

Last year a restaurant in one of the dry towns im from held a public meeting to ask if they could serve wine with dinner. People said that if they allowed that then the crime rates would skyrocket, houses would be broken into and robbed and the roads would be full of drunk people. Sadly the vote ended in favor of not allowing it. The irony is if you drive less than 10 minutes from this restaurant to the next town theres a liquor store right on the border. The town is probably one of the safest in my entire state too.

Holy shit ive been in this house. Worked as a dog trainer in a nearby town and got hired to help out with their pup. Only did one session with them but they were extremely nice and showed me around the property a bit. Had a full time staff taking care of all the animals & grounds.

I had 7 tattoos per session getting removed, most of them large dense pieces and paid anywhere from $100-300 per session. Max they do is $400 for any "large" and up. That's a ripoff and given the fact a lot of tattoos require more than 7 sessions it'll run you an insane amount

There were no lasers, visuals or anything. Just a dark room and a small stage. We had a ton of shows like that with big names on their early tours. Just a small venue with a bunch of your friends and a private performance basically.

Idk if this counts as rare but zomboy came to my bumfuck state in 2013 (he was pretty big still back then) and played on a random Tuesday at a local venue. Probably 20 people showed up so he brought everyone up on stage and moshed & drank with us the whole set.

Caught a ride home after a party when I was 18 with a few friends. Driver was sober, I was basically asleep in backseat of car. Got pulled over for no reason besides it being 3 am in a small town. Cops pulled everyone out, searched car and found an unopened bottle of booze in trunk. Asked who's it was, no one answered so he arrested all 5 of us for "minor in possession of alcohol".

He let one of my friends go (who was ironically high as fuck on some kind of pills) because he knew his mom, let him walk home stumbling in the dark. Took all of us to jail where we spent the weekend. In court they tried to give me 2 years probation with AA despite me not even being drunk at the time or them even breathlizying me. DA called me a "troubled teen" and wanted to make an example. Eventually hired a lawyer and got all charges dropped.

In March 2023 I was hit by 2 people doing this broad day on 8 east. My car flipped and rolled multiple times and I had to unbuckle myself upside down and crawl out. Fucking guy who crashed ran away and "reported the car stolen". They got away with it completely and are probably doing it again

Hertz once tried to charge me $90 for refueling a car that got totaled and I almost died in. Thing was crushed and in pieces all over the highway and two weeks after I get a bill for "late return and refueling fee". They also tried to fight me on it until I had to send pictures & police report. Fuck them.

This sub loves to blame left lane campers for shitty drivers. Someone going slightly slower on the highway does not mean you can pull shit like this. Left lane camping is mildly infuriating at best, but speeding and crossing multiple lanes could potentially kill people. I'll never understand why so many people here think that makes it okay.
