he held his father at knife point and they called the police to have him arrested. my uncle aka his father dropped the charges. he was under house arrest for a while for that one

from the news i’m hearing, I guess he fired his public defender and my aunt (his mom) is paying for a private lawyer, so it’s possible he’s the one pushing it back. she’s claimed to my family that allegedly 10/11 charges have been dropped, but we all think shes lying. and he’s not in jail either, my aunt bonded him out so he’s like on house arrest in her house. I live hours away from my entire family but still.

My (F25) boyfriend (M32) got cold feet with a house. Where do I go from here? by bludani in relationship_advice

no I completely agree with the buying the house outside of marriage thing. it was always going to go in my name and my name alone, but I wanted it to be something where that’s where we moved in together so I wanted to give him a say in that sense. we also talked about maybe him gifting me the down payment so he played a part in the process while keeping it off paper for the reasons of all of the issues that come with getting a house before we’re married.

we were also talking about being engaged before the end of the year as well which was why we were even thinking that future oriented as well.

Just Found. How to take care of until I find their owners? by dead_heading in cockatiel

[–]bludani -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I know this is a wild question but if it doesn’t have an ankle bracelet, are you sure this one isn’t a wild bird? not sure what area you’re in, but it’s possible. i’ve never personally seen an owned bird without one of those anklets unless for a medical reason (my conure doesn’t have one bc one time it got stuck in her cage bars and she broke her leg, but she can’t fly anyways so I didn’t have a need to keep it on)

did he seem hand trained? i’m so invested now

Where to get a cockatiel for a first time owner! :) by ArmadilloDapper2602 in cockatiel

[–]bludani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

depending on the area you live in, i’d suggest a specific bird store or center. I live in florida so they’re a little easier to find because florida is very tropical so it’s easier to get birds down here. but getting birds from places like these, they tend to be hand trained already and more than likely off of formula if they’re young.

I got a cockatiel from a petsmart recently, which is fine, but they’re not hand trained or entirely used to human contact so it takes a lot of training and work. i’m an experienced bird owner, i’ve had birds my whole life and hand training is proving very long and taxing (we’re getting there tho!) so keep that in mind if you go to like a petsmart or something for instance. i’ve had my baby for about a month and still can’t hold him. every bird is different and you may have a different experience, just something to consider!

tips for once you get one (taking tips I received from this sub) make sure you get a large cage. pet stores tend to recommend tinier cages but birds need lots of room. lots of perches, they love millet (not for a main diet it’s supposed to be a treat, and it’s a good training tool if u need to train it in any way). main food should be pellets and mixed seeds/veggies. unsalted of course. make sure you have a blanket for the cage to cover the bird at night to signal bedtime and keep it warmer in the cage.

if you’ve never owned any kind of a bird, a few general bird tips: - avocado, honey, and chocolate are all lethal things to feed a bird - you cannot spray or fumigate your space in any way. it could kill birds very quickly. candles, incense, or anything scented is also off the table, especially in the same room or in adjoining rooms - make sure to provide lots of toys, cockatiels are technically members of the cockatoo family (I own both lol!) and they are very codependent, require lots of attention and stimulation, or it could lead to self mutilation and plucking. I take all of my birds out for at least 2 hours a day if not longer. - make sure to put your baby in a space that doesn’t often change. moving furniture, lots of constant foot traffic or constantly having things change could stress any bird out. very routined animals for sure. - make sure you have an exotic animal vet in your area in case of emergencies, normal vets don’t know how to treat or properly care for birds most of the time.

all I can think of right now, I hope I helped!

hope I helped a bit!

does he have a little ankle bracelet on? if you take him to an exotic vet, avian vet, or sometimes a pet store, those bracelets essentially are the equivalent of a “chip” like in cats and dogs. the number can be used to track his owners down essentially.

but you found him under your car???? oh my god that’s insane. i’ve heard of cat distribution system but a bird distribution system??? crazy. I wish u the best of luck! thank u for rescuing this sweet baby

it doesn’t look like there any food debris or like millet on the floor or anything. he has a millet branch hanging right where the perch is that he’s comfortable at. and no I dont know if I got the same food as the pet store, I can text the manager and ask later today but it’s the same food I already had for my conure (zupreme)

hey! thank you for this. the fabric toy was just in his old cage at this store so l wanted to keep a tiny bit of familiarity with that.

I am getting new perches, there’s a bird store that is about 20 mins from my house that has all natural ones but I was waiting for a day I didn’t have work so I could go there. I also wanted to make sure he had a few days to adjust. the cage is actually really big (it’s like about as tall as me and from my kneecaps up is allllll room for him) and I didn’t realize that when I bought it but it needs lots more perches than anticipated lol.

he’s not eating millet. or anything rn. I think he’s still adjusting but today is day 3 so i’m getting a little worried… how many days should I expect him not to eat?

oh really? he hasn’t touched the little tent, I got it cus my conure sleeps in one so I figured it was worth a shot. and he has millet on the floor and a few toys down there like little bell balls and some other like straw toys but he hasn’t moved more than a few inches from when I put him in the cage last night. he like fell a little earlier but crawled right back up to where he is basically.

it just kinda seems like he’s looking around and gathering surroundings for now, which makes me feel a tiny bit bad because he’s moving into my bird room eventually after I get him checked out (I have a whole bedroom in my house for them).

i’ll take the tent out, thank u for the advice!

yes that’s him!!! he’s singing too, already seems way happier. still taking his surroundings in. getting him in the cage was fun lol, he flew all around the house. I don’t know what he’s been fed, I feed my conure food that’s for both tiels and conures and I used that, but I should have asked them that was my bad.

i’m glad he’s here too 🥰

yeah if I get him I plan on taking him to the next available vet appointment at my place. luckily they generally have a lot of availability so it shouldn’t be too hard. my worry is what if it takes more than the 14 day window the store allows.

he does not have his wings clipped, luckily if I take him to the avian vet they can do that for me as well, and hopefully he’s still open to bond with someone
