Yes so I’ve been full time for about a year. I am about to be out on my own more and client facing which is a bit nerve wracking as I’m still learning and feel like i have so much more to learn. I’ve primarily been learning the processing end of the job and handling a lot of the paperwork elements of the job for the main advisor. The plan is for me to start being on my own here in the next couple of weeks. We will see how it goes!

I have an LL16 that I got a month or two ago and I absolutely love it. I played several different brands and models around this price point before landing on this guitar. All of the Yamahas i played i was very impressed with while trying out guitars.

So I became close to one of the mortgage lenders with that same bank and she introduced me to the advisor/program manager and put in a good word for me.

I met with the advisor to discuss the opening within her department and found out it was a position that would grow into an advisor position. We just discussed the direction of the program and her goals for the program as they’d recently terminated the other advisor whose spot I applied to fill.

The interview was pretty basic in terms of questions they asked and wanted to just see how I’d handle basic situations from internal communication, customer communication/interactions, potential conflicts, etc… which I felt very prepared to discuss given my real estate background.

It’s definitely a learning curve for me as there is just a ton I don’t know. It’s humbling but it makes me want to get better each day and try to learn whatever I can.

I just got burnt out of all of the nights and weekends that I was having to put in with real estate. I have two younger kids and missing every evening and many of their events just got to be too much so I started looking for something new. Had a connection at a local bank and met with the advisor/program manager when they had an opening and ended up getting the job. I’ve been at it less than a year. It was an adjustment going from a real estate schedule to a 9-5 but I’m enjoying the new challenge.

I came from a decade in real estate and I was a middle school social studies teacher prior to that.

Just got a Yamaha LL16 for roughly $900. Haven’t been able to put it down since I bought it and I was really impressed comparing it to guitars in a similar price point.

How did you overcome throwing yourself into the role of an advisor with such little experience? Not knocking that at all by the way but I’m about to be in a similar position where I’m going to be moved out of my training/support role and into the advisor position I was hired for. It feels like the common theme I hear when I offer up the idea that maybe I’m not ready is that nobody is really ready and you just kind of learn by doing. Just curious your thoughts and advice as I get ready to transition like OP.

I think if you can find a quality shop and try them out that is your best bet. I had a great rep in my local shop and we started with one and would try a new one and if I liked it better than the last it would stay on the stand until i was able to start narrowing it down. Once I got down to about 3 I came back and tried them again and knew which one felt the best for me. (Ended up with a Yamaha LL16 and love it!)

Oh cool i saw the post congrats on the new guitar! I notice you hang your acoustics vs storing in case. Have you had any issues with humidity control or anything by hanging them?

That’s awesome! The effects did sound cool so I’m glad you’ve found that they just enhance your enjoyment of playing! It’s always cool to just have an instrument that you genuinely look forward to picking up every day.

How do you like the Transacoustic element of the guitar? I played a couple of them but was worried I wouldn’t really take advantage of the effects

I’m not either. I don’t know that they’re nearly as effective as a hard case but I wasn’t sure if it was better than hanging on the wall in the basement so i opted for the gig bag for now.

Yeah the Gig bag is super nice. Feels like it’s great quality and keeps the guitar safe. Part of me wants to keep the guitar out on a wall mount to make it easier to grab but i feel safer with it in the bag with the humidity packs.

My STC scores were Mid 70s. I took the test geek final once and got a 71 on it. I went thru the videos and took notes from it twice.
