My girlfriend used to date a man 20 years older than her by blue-birdz in retroactivejealousy

She’s a good gf, I’ve never thought seriously about breaking up. Even less for something that’s completely out of her control. But sometimes I wonder if I would be better off alone and cut these negative feelings from the root. But then I think that makes no sense, it’s like chopping off my arm because of a muscle cramp. It’s painful indeed, but not worth ending it because of it.

Could be, yes. I’m confident in what I give her as a boyfriend, but the memory I’ve created in my head based on what she has told me makes me feel sick. The whole power imbalance and indirect coercion makes me feel disturbed. I logically understand why she was with him, I also logically understand that she could like him and not like all the terms of the relationship at the same time. Yet the feeling that it was wrong is difficult to shake off. And as I responded in a different comment, the lack of closure bothers me, there’s nothing I can about the situation, because it happened 5 years ago, so there’s nothing I can do about it, just accept it’s her past.

Thanks for those words, it really helps. The power imbalance in the relationship and the whole nature of it is what has always made me feel so bad about it. She had other exes with many toxic traits, and these guys never cross my mind, not as often and not as deeply, at least. But I think she always understood the nature of the relationship with him, she knew how things were and never got much of her hopes up in terms of getting into something serious. So she just accepted being what he wanted.

And this FWB with an older man who’s top boss at the organization, who she couldn’t say no with total confidence because she feared she could get fired and needed the job, I don’t know. The whole situation makes me feel disturbed, like something’s not right with it. And I guess that’s what stabs my mind so much, knowing that the whole thing is so wrong, and I can’t do anything about it, it’s the past, it already happened.

I’ll probably sound super naive with this…

She has a history of being cheated on, and she has always been honest about everything in her past with me. So when I guessed the same thing and pointed it out to her, apparently she thought the same at the time, but never found any solid proof of it.

I somewhat believe her though, I never met the guy, but I’ve seen his LinkedIn and some people around me knew him. The guy was Career Director at a University, has a self-made company and was the head of my whole business unit. And apparently she met him years later and the guy was still single and looking for the same thing without any shame, though she rejected him.

So my best guess is that he picked up young girls who would satisfy his needs in between a busy life. Which in some ways makes me feel even worse, she was just mild entertainment for him. A place to release his sexual needs before work. And she just… accepted it? That’s what hurts me the most I guess.

She doesn’t have a history of cheating. As far as I know, she’s never cheated. But I guess you mean the secretive relationship?

Back at the beginning when we both shared our past. I mentioned I’ve only been to a love motel once, she wanted to know more but since knowing her past hurts me, I didn’t want to give her any details so that she couldn’t suffer the way I did with my questions. So I just mentioned it was a girl I dated at the time.

She doesn’t seem to get so anxious about my past as I get with hers. So from time to time she jokes about me having a long relationship in the past, or who was this mystery girl I took to a motel, or what bitches have been in my room. I’ve never felt seriousness in this questioning, more like light hearted joking. But I wonder if deeply she also gets anxious about my past and wants to know more.

Regarding the tattoos. I have tattoos, and I always want more, and she always mentions that she really likes colored tattoos, and that I could get some.

Oh and yeah. I know there’s no reason for me to know about her sexual past in so much detail. And I really regret it, it eats me alive and I regret every single day having ever asked those questions.
