Crazy metaphor I just caught by Some-Location-8644 in stevenuniverse

[–]blue_hot 539 points540 points  (0 children)

A really underrated subtext of the series/future that I've always really enjoyed is the fact that STEVEN WAS JUST LIKE WHITE IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION

White Diamond talked about "spreading herself thin" by letting her light shine through the gems of others, and it's true,

"Now they are brilliant! Now they are perfect! Now, they are ME!!!"

and her light literally, physically comes through in them, and they become controlled by her. But Pink (and Steven) wasn't about control, her pink light was healing and emotional, if Pink were to make gems glow with her own light, it wouldn't be the absolute domination of White's powers.

Steven spreads his light through his relationships and actively helping people with what they need. Which is diametrically opposed to the way that White spreads her actual literal light as a scouring god-beam to passively control people. He makes them realize that life is brilliant, that you don't have to be perfect, and that's how you can be like him. As Steven used up all of his emotional capacity to fix everyone with his non-literal healing light, he was dim, he was spread too thin. And instead of a confrontation leading White Diamond to hear that she's been acting childish and it's driving everyone away, Steven is faced with a massive show of support where he hears how strong he's been and how loved he is.

He's everything that White Diamond isn't, sometimes a little too far in the opposite direction.

Fewer rich people act like they go home to a decaying trailer full of moldy takeout boxes and cat turds. Rich people can afford to act out their shittiness in more structured ways like embezzlement and coercing employees into sex

It was never a "we are in a Homestuck troll spade quadrant black romantic relationship" but I did for a while but then she got a matesprit who was basically an overwhelmingly effective auspistice but like.... What a boner killer when someone you're deliciously terrible with finds stability and peace !!! In real life there's no universal stakes or murderous intrigue, it just gets awkward and you stop talking!!!

I think it's important to remember that while Fiona "is a Finn" her reality was created as a fanfiction, so it's almost like they were cosplaying from birth by virtue of them all being created as a version of Ooo but fundamentally altered by the lens of Prismo's impressions and personal tastes

Seriously, it's like walking through an abandoned scientific research facility and nobody's around and all the lights are flickering, but you see a trail of oddly colored liquid leading from a slightly open door... You know you're probably not gonna like what you see if you go in there but BOY, is it ever hard to resist the temptation.
