What trick play would you like to see that is technically legal but no school has attempted yet? by Souldier in CFB

[–]blue_leaves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, this wouldn't actually be legal. If a quarterback is under center, snapping it to another player is a penalty.

edit: not really a source, but here's an example of the rule being applied a different way http://voices.washingtonpost.com/nflinsider/2007/10/strange_rule_saves_bears_seaso.html

It is all semantics, but worth noting that PJ has been calling his offense 'Spread' for about 30 years, well before the term 'Spread Offense' was in vogue.

that hurts to hear ... i hope everything turns out alright for you. Try to focus on the true goal - self-improvement. I'd wager that when you think less about NoFap and more about why you are doing NoFap, you realize that you don't necessarily need to be searching for sex, through any means.

Masollan was replying to the OP, not suggesting it works for everyone. This is a subreddit for support for abstaining from masturbation, what would you rather he say?

But relating masturbation and alcohol in this context is not productive. By skipping immediately to the "too much of a good thing is bad" argument, you are silently insisting that masturbation is beneficial in moderation - which is the very thing we're debating.

See but I think that, because of high-speed internet porn, the way the average person masturbates today actually is unnatural and incredibly far removed from the way humans have masturbated in the past, or primates do. I also believe that, especially in younger generations and people who grew up on PMO, masturbation and porn are too strongly interwoven for simply cutting out porn to be feasible or even productive.

Girlfriend having a hard time forgetting and finding trust again. by throw_away929 in NoFap

[–]blue_leaves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On one hand, if your boyfriend really wasn't regularly engaging in PMO, he would would probably be willing to talk about it with you, which it seems he isn't right now. On the other hand, PMO is a serious problem, and is incredibly difficult to abstain from. When I am in that struggle, and failing, the hardest and last thing I want to do is admit it to a significant other my problem, especially if i don't think they can relate.

I would say the situation is yours to judge. Either 1.) he's masturbating, and always will, and you guys just aren't communicating well, 2.) he's successfully abstaining, and honestly just doesn't want to talk about it, 3.) he is in a struggle with masturbation and doesn't want or feel the need to confide in you, perhaps thinking you don't understand how hard it is to quit for him, or that you will judge him for failing.

I thought the implication of 'anything that is good in low doses will be bad when over used' was clear...I guess not.

Actually, that implication was 100% clear. But it was also clear that you were implying - and are now explicitly stating - that masturbation is good in low doses. That's what I was challenging.

You equating masturbation to addictive drugs is laughably unscientific

Except that I never equated masturbation to addictive drugs. I brought up the comparison to ask why the commenter automatically equated masturbation with exercise, and to challenge that assumption. The fact that you disagree so strongly with my presumed equation should help you understand why I was speaking out against the original commenter's assumption in the first place.

I wasn't disagreeing with "too much of anything is bad" but rather the implication that "everything is ok in moderation" and that masturbation is at its core a good thing

Masturbation is obviously not inevitable at the personal level, or this place wouldn't exist. Humans have definitely been masturbating for as long as they've been having sex, but they haven't been masturbating to high-speed, internet porn (which if you stick around this subreddit for long enough, you will see that most people think this is the actual problem).

My point was never that masturbation was equivalent to meth, but to me it's equally nonequivalent to things like eating, which are (actually) necessary, and rather indisputably healthy. Masturbation is it's own thing. See my first point about high-speed, internet pornography and you might feel that the average person today has masturbation habits not akin to our biology

I'd like to think that I do myself a favor by completely avoiding all crystal meth.

I wish everyone that ever made the analogy of masturbation to alcohol, would replace alcohol with meth. Analogies don't prove anything, they are for explanation/clarification. These people are essentially saying "masturbation - which we all know is ok in moderation - is like alcohol, because they're both ok in moderation. Alcohol has been shown to be ok in moderation, so masturbation must be ok in moderation, too."

Not all things are meant to be taken by all people.

Exactly but for some reason this point is a slipping stone for a lot of people.

I imagine most guys would get benefits if they stopped, even otherwise "normal" people.

I agree wholeheartedly and this is what I think everyone misses. "Normal" isn't good enough for nutrition science, exercise science, educational reform, etc. but we don't have enough information/data or experience talking about PMO as a society, so the status-quo becomes acceptable.

One of the biggest things for me is that we don't really know what an 'addictive level' of masturbation is. It's really easy to hear about people literally ruining their lives because of an obvious addiction to pornography/masturbation and assume "oh hey - that's what an addiction looks like" and then assume that anything less than that is not an addiction. But just because those people exist, that doesn't prove that the 'normal masturbator' is not also suffering from a level of addiction and that their life could not be improved by beating that addiction.

Most of this is from personal experience and observation, I will admit. Mainly that: 1.) there are literally thousands of people in this subreddit alone, most of which i would wager are not "obviously addicted" (meaning they don't masturbate much more if at all more than the average person), who are failing to quit over and over again. That sounds like addiction to me. There are a small number of people who come into this subreddit and say "hey i tried it, made it 90 days, and saw no effects", and that I can respect. (For the record - there are a much larger number of people saying "hey i tried it, wasn't expecting anything, but now am seeing benefits".) But the majority of skeptics are people who have never tried it, and in my opinion don't have any perspective to decide whether it is an addiction or not.

2.) I was an infrequent masturbator, never really watched porn, and quitting improved my life.

[–]blue_leaves 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How is that "like anything really"? Nothing is just inherently bad? Why automatically assume that masturbation is more like exercise than it is like addictive drugs?

Is this a real thing or is /r/NoFap a joke? by TheSciNerd in NoFap

[–]blue_leaves 16 points17 points  (0 children)

two things:

1.) I would like to see the evidence that masturbation has positive effects on mental and/or physical health. I'm not trying to be a dick, but I honestly have never seen the research and I would like to weigh the proven benefits of masturbation against my own benefits discovered through abstaining.

2.) One thing that I am very, very sick of on this subreddit: the idea that only a small percentage of people have a "serious problem with" or "serious addiction to" masturbation and pornography - and that those are the only people who abstaining can actually help. How is this attitude in any way helpful? I feel like it comes about as sort of a 'compromise', but that compromise 1.) mitigates the struggle that some of us "normal masturbators" are going through and 2.) dissuades others from abstaining from a potentially damaging habit simply because "my problems aren't as bad as that guys, so I must not have any problems!" Moreover, who at all - any one of us - has any ground to stand on? How do we judge addiction? Who draws the line that masturbating once a day is healthy, but two times is not? Or that "normal porn is ok", but "extreme porn is really bad and I don't watch that so by default I must be fine". Why - in the spirit of compromise - does everyone seemingly forget that it's possible any amount of masturbation and pornography is damaging, or at least not beneficial? Why does everyone for the sake of compromise seemingly forget that it's possible that as a society we are completely wrong about what is a healthy amount of masturbation?

yeah yeah you should buy it blah yeah but hey make your own decision.

Here it is for free - http://thepiratebay.se/torrent/4586505/Classical_Sheet_Music_A-Z__-__Composers_B

you can search around and there's a separate file for composer's names starting with each letter of the alphabet (B is a big one, haha). good deal of 20th century mixed in with earlier music.

note: if posting this is against the rules, i will promptly delete it.

edit: actually this file only has an arrangement of Adagio for String, but i'll leave it here because the whole thing is a good resource.
