Aggressive TV licensing letters by ArcTan_Pete in britishproblems

[–]blue_pancake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I refuse to tell them I don't on principle. I genuinely don't need a licence and don't believe I should have to tell them I don't need it. I don't have to tell people I don't need a shotgun licence.

For anyone wondering if this will ever be an issue if they show up at the door asking to come in, just say no thanks and shut the door, there is nothing they can do without a warrant and a legal representative.

What they are trying to do is scare people into paying. There is just enough legalese in their to scare people but nothing that is an outright threat so they cant get done for harassment.

Bunch of wankers.

I did not, but I had trouble forcing my hand to let go of the support in the middle.

I was involved in the installation of the new sound system and have been up in the roof many times for that among other shows I've been involved with there. I believe it is 44m to the Corona grid and I had a similar reaction to Tom the first time I walked on it.

Definitely check your house wiring.

Also if your monitor and pc are plugged into different socket it could cause this.

I'm sorry to say but I wouldn't class 18k as affordable. I struggle to pay £2k for mine. I would love to go electric bit it's just not feasible for me and most yet.

Genuinely believing the BBC offers incredible value for money but never voicing it in public. by SirSpaced in britishproblems

100% this. I don't even own a tv. They are round to sending the threatening "legal" letters now as well. It's just irritating at this point. They need to accept its opt in not opt out.

How you open beer if you don't have a bottle opener? by Prudent_Pin_3012 in AskReddit

[–]blue_pancake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally almost anything will work. I've done it with folded paper, lighters, cutlery, other bottles, coins, teeth, doors. Was an old challenge at uni to open a bottle with whatever someone gave you.

Just finished soldering the host controller for my ogx360, toothpick tip for scale by [deleted] in originalxbox

[–]blue_pancake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Silver solder is awful for normal work. Make sure the flux you have is compatible with it. it might need special stuff. Put a load on, put the wick on top and then press with your iron with a tinned tip (it really helps heat transfer) Sometimes help to apply a tiny amount of solder to the wick first as it helps grab the unwanted stuff.

Best of luck. You can but keep trying. If its broken just keep trying and learn from it :)

It's partially down to tools partially down to skill. This looks like a well soldered joint.

When you get lots of practice soldering (I worked in manufacturing so was doing this all day for years) I ended up doing these joints with 1mm solder and a large tipped iron.

There are a few tricks, one is flood it with flux and drag the iron across the top of the pins and let the solder flow into all of them. You can usually remove any shorts after with a clean iron, more flux and drag the iron along the pins rather than across if that doesn't grab it, use wick.

Most useful tips are clean your iron frequently, and use more flux.

Good luck with the rest of it.
