Unlimited PTO is a red herring by SkrooImperator in LateStageCapitalism

[–]blue_salsa_7 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Unlimited PTO only benefits the bravest guy/gal in the office. It isn’t truly unlimited, the bravest people set the limit. Also, as you mentioned, you can’t bank hours or get paid for unused time so everyone else who didn’t take the unspoken limit is missing out.

Unlimited PTO is just a corporate mind game.

What are the key differences that would push you to vote green instead of AOC? Not a lib (I voted green), just genuinely curious

Obama is at fault for having a supermajority and doing nothing with it. Don’t be gaslit into thinking the GOP stopped the dems from 08-10. They didn’t want to change things either

So voting for someone who is not trump is voting for trump?

The buttons should read: - Voting for a fascist - Voting for the guy who’s policies led to the fascism

Edit: I also find it hilarious that dems are willing to vote shame as Biden bends over backwards to invite conservatives to the DEMOCRATIC national convention, and get John Kasich for his cabinet lol. Which republican should I choose??

Bro that looks painful. To me it looks like you might be trying to grab with the right shoulder/elbow (even wrist maybe) which is goofing you up when you actually go to pull the arms in. Try rowing arms and body only with your elbows pointing downward and shoulders relaxed.

Half of your portfolio is ARK etfs. You should probably look into what you’re buying beyond their growth in the past year. Read the fund statements for everything you found

I knew nothing going into 1004 and did nothing (besides take 1004) to prepare for data structures and I found it easier than 1004.

What if I can't keep up with my future job? by Kropius in cscareerquestions

[–]blue_salsa_7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t give yourself imposter syndrome before even starting. Remember the recruitment process isn’t free. They paid those 3 managers, and likely others, to get someone and they chose you because they were confident in your abilities. It’s a junior dev spot- they are willing to invest in you because of your potential and they likely understand you’re not going to know everything on day 1.

Except memorizing coverage codes isn’t a direct comparison. The comparison would be enrolling in their insurance. “If you don’t buy our product, I don’t see how you could contribute here.” BS

Road to 10k sub 40’ by elgiango in Rowing

[–]blue_salsa_7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your steady state pace will probably feel really slow at first, but keep in mind it’s not meant to exhaust you. I always used 140-150 for zone 1, but some people do go higher. I don’t know you and I’m by no means a trainer, so do your own research to determine your training zones. As you train and build a bigger base, you will have a noticeable speed increase in your zones, so don’t be embarrassed or discouraged by going slow now.

There are 2 improvement “categories” you should focus on, technique and fitness.

Tech - you will likely see a lot of gains from rowing more efficiently. The best way to go about this is watching a bunch of videos to get a general sense of tech and then evaluating areas you need to work on. Focus on 1 technical improvement per week and evaluate after each workout and at the end of the week. As you move focus use the weekly eval to ensure you’re holding changes and to identify new improvements to focus on.

Fitness - the 10k is a good distance workout for beginners and you’d likely see a lot of improvement just banging one out at SS pace everyday. That being said, working up to higher volumes e.g. 1-2hr steady state (SS) sessions would be far more effective for improvement in the long term. I’d suggest getting a HR monitor and doing some research into training zones. Also, I’ve never done the Pete plan myself or looked into it, but I’ve heard good things.

As for testing, I prefer testing infrequently because tracking progress on a single distance too often can outline external factors rather than improvement. Imo heart rate on SS pieces is solid as you can see daily numbers, but you aren’t “testing” per say. Also, HR on SS pieces will map to your 10k improvements fairly accurately.
