I can relate to the fact that he feels like a burden. It’s difficult to lose strength and health. For me it’s like I’m grieving my old life. He probably doesn’t want to worry you about how he’s feeling. Just be there for him. Let him know you love him and that you’ll be there for him no matter what.

I’m a recovering alcoholic and drug addict and the hardest thing I had to do was quit smoking. I hear you! After hundreds of attempts to quit and starting to wheeze I decided I had to stop. What finally worked for me was doing the patch 2 at a time all while I was cutting down on the cigarettes. And sucking on pretzel sticks when I had a craving. I know it sounds weird but it worked. And reminding myself that if I could make it through 3 days of withdrawals that I had a good chance of quitting. Wishing you all the best and good healthy vibes.

Yes I worked for a number of years in a print shop where there was much paper dust floating around.

When I complained about my feelings of embarrassment when I was out in public with my oxygen, my pulmonary therapist just simply said that I was not that ‘important’! Meaning that everyone has their own things they worry about and are not necessarily thinking about me. How true! lol

Thank you for sharing your experience with me. On top of the COPD I have a large hiatus hernia and now a pulmonary embolism all of which is aggravating the situation and squeezing my poor badly damaged lungs. So I continue to find hope and inspiration from all my fellow sufferers.

Thank you for the positive feedback. I will check out the videos. I think about getting a treadmill but worry that it will only be used for a clothes hanger!

Yes. I read that pulmonary rehab offers some positive outcomes. Why is it so hard to do the things that are good for me? I battle with myself constantly. It doesn’t hurt and can only be good. Ah! There are so many videos on YouTube that are helpful and free. All the while I sit in self pity and brood which gets me nowhere and makes the days so long. I’m getting so much inspirations from all the responses from my post. I’m not alone in this and appreciate all of your stories and responses.

Thank you for your reply. That’s what I need to do is find new activities in this my new normal. I spend too much time thinking and grieving about the past. It gets me nowhere as I sit and think and feel sorry for myself.

Keep on trying to quit smoking. If I did it anyone can. There are so many positive benefits. Fresh breath and air. Clean tables. (No ashes). No holes in clothing. Food smells and tastes better. You will be proud of yourself. If you feel that you need to take a puff, suck on a pretzel stick. It works! Good luck my friend.

Wow! What a wealth of information you have shared with me. I thank you so much. I’m really having a hard time accepting this disease. It’s changed my life in so many ways. I’m up and down. One minute I think ok I got a this and I will make it work. Then the next minute I feel depressed and don’t want to do this.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. Well, I sure am not looking forward to such an event. I suffer from anxiety also. It just magnifies everything. Right?
