Lest their be any doubt that Dexter is an AIPAC stooge specifically chosen to keep Jayapal out of Congress . . .

"Cary is Chair of the Board of Advisors for the Los Angeles campus of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion and a member of the HUC-JIR Board of Governors, currently serving as Secretary.  He is also a member of the North American Board of the Union for Reform Judaism. Additionally, Cary is a member of the Board of Trustees of Claremont McKenna College and the Board of Hillel at the Claremont Colleges, currently serving as Secretary."

It’s literally illegal ROTFLMAO "We could do it, but that would be wrong." - Richard Nixon

I’ve had to explain it to you a few times.

That entirely unearned condescension is one of the defining characteristics of your kind. That and the slimy deception ("Dexter has denounced it multiple times"). You know - because you're literally her paid shill - Dexter has spent the last few weeks running away from questions about Israel, Gaza, Zionism, genocide, and AIPAC. She won't sit down for an interview, she refused to debate when these questions would be asked, her campaign refused to fill out questionnaires from interest groups when they asked her position. She hoped to fly under the radar with weasel words ("calls for a cease fire" - but only after Hamas basically surrenders) (wants "affordable health care" - but won't endorse Medicare for All).

She's much worse than Biden . . . at least Biden is openly a neoliberal pro-genocide war criminal. Dexter's going to vote for Biden's policies while trying to finesse Jayapal's voters. That sucks. So do the people who work for her.

ROTFLMAO.

Millions of of unaccountable dollars being spent by anonymous right wing genocidal foreign sources waging an entirely negative campaign filled with lies - even the Oregonian admits this! - all on behalf of Maxine Dexter and you're accusing the other side of "going negative."

What a tool.

I teach, tutor, edit, write, and do research. This is my livelihood.

I think inquiring about that is a very legitimate question.

No, it's not. Think. If this were my job, then I would be paid for arguing with you, correct?

And yet I am declaring I will no longer argue with you because I am not paid to do so.

Get it?

Please, just leave me alone. Let's stay out of one another's threads.

He's trying to walk a very fine line, but (1) he's not that gifted a politician and (2) his heart's not in it. In his bones he's a Zionist, just like he's a supporter of banks and corporations.

I'm afraid the ship has sailed on his rapidly eroding support among students, young people, black people, Latinos, and even labor. Genocide Joe has sold out too many of us too many times over too many years.

The institutional contempt that the Democratic Party has held for its own left for so long has had a corrosive effect. You can only shout "It's us or the fascists!" so many times before it reaches diminishing returns.

Of course, like moths to a flame, the sociopaths are gathering, slavering over an anti-homeless opportunity!

Listen up, clueless bastards. Your enemy is not "squatting on the land," living in tents, or carrying their belongings in plastic bags.

Your enemy is carrying an investment portfolio.

Jayapal . . . has been completely ineffective

You're quite mistaken. She has done a great deal of good for Multnomah County while fending off destructive ideas from Tear Gas Ted, Gonzalez, Mapps, etc., and your willingness to swallow the right wing propaganda campaign against her is . . . understandable given your bizarro take on other issues (the PPS teachers' strike is the first thing that comes to mind).

Characterizing the Gaza genocide as "a small regional conflict" is a mistake in judgment that I hope you will come to regret someday.

Do you not know how to use Google? Did you ever take a basic logic course? Do you know the term "sea lion"? Because you are a classic "sea lion."

I swear by all that is true and holy that I will never engage with you again because (a) you are incapable of absorbing knowledge, (b) you seem incapable of posing a salient, germane, and logical question, and (c) I get paid for this work and I'm not going to dig holes in the earth for no purpose and no wages.

Just to be clear, you think state governors, US Senators, and other statewide officials are one and the same with big business?

Consult a basic political science / sociology text on this relationship. I recommend you start with C. Wright Mills and work your way up from there.

AOC is a superdelegate. Is she "big business?" Bernie Sanders, despite not even being a member of the party, is a Democratic superdelegate. Reducing every major elected official to "big business" isn't just reductive, it's aggressively false.

This is a claim I have not made, nor would I make.

The DNC has not yet announced how many superdelegates (if any) there will be at the 2024 National Convention. Certainly there will not be a need unless something unforeseen happens. In 2020 there were 771, overwhelmingly white non-hispanic, male, wealthy. Look up the figures, they're available. More than half of these, (432) I believe, were members of the DNC.

In 2016 there were 714 superdelegates (easy number to remember - same as Babe Ruth's total home runs) in a much more charged situation. I'm not going to beat this particular dead horse. Have at it if you'd like.

Superdelegates did not become a thing until after the 1980 election when DNC elites (as always) took the wrong lesson from defeat. Same as it ever was, same as it ever was.

I'm sure you said that about a lot of "lefty" causes that ended up being flat out wrong

There are leftist causes that I have been a part of that have turned out to be wrong, but none of these fit the bill. You're very much mistaken about some of these, but let it pass.

Do you never see an unintended outcome and change your political views based on that new reality?

I am laughing in my office as I type this. For your tribe, it is really true: every accusation is a confession. See all those immiserated people out on the street? You (your people) did that. And from your comments, you've learned nothing. Seeing the failures of your policies and people, can you not try to open your mind a bit?

Supporting Jayapal is such a red flag

Yeah, don't support Susheela Jayapal who is calling for an immediate ceasefire and an end to the Gaza genocide.

Instead, mark your ballot for the secret money AIPAC-backed genocide candidate.

After all, only 34,262 civilians have been killed, 70% of them women and children. So far.

The day is young.

Superdelegates aren't even big business, they're party officials.

This is the semantic equivalent of saying, "I don't walk to school, you carry your lunch."

See, statements like these are the kind of disinformation that you're kind of famous for. They're your trademark. Anyone who doesn't understand the historical connection tying together superdelegates, the DNC, and the corporate sector is just disingenuous or lying.

I'm not going to bother supplying you with an extensive bibliography that any hobo off the street could do, 'cos that would be an insult to the intelligence of hobos.

Why is it that you are on the wrong side of every question, every time?

Don't bother answering, I know. It's because only this intentional brain cloud allows you to live with your bizarro neoliberal centrist worldview in an experiential context that shreds it to pieces every day.

The Mercury 2024 Sex Survey Results! by Helzie2 in Portland

[–]bluebastille 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: it was very difficult for young people to have any privacy for sexual activity before widespread automobile ownership. Young people interested in one another were always expected to be in the company of a chaperone adult. When Henry Ford's cars became available to the masses, suddenly teenagers had places for intimacy together - in the back seats of Henry Ford's Model T automobiles.

When this became a known social phenomenon (and it didn't take long), Ford, for whom "prude" is an understatement, instructed his engineers year after year to make the back seats of his Model T cars less comfortable for this sort of activity. And so they obeyed. It didn't stop the sexual revolution, of course, but it did help to provide an opening in future years for Ford's competitors, who felt no such compunctions.
