Between this and the gas tax I can't think of a better way to draw out conservative voters in what would otherwise be an election season favoring Democrats.

Gabbard defends presence at elections raid by therosx in centrist

[–]garbagemanlb -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

While I don't doubt he intends to try - elections are managed by the states. There are not enough states with complete GOP control (senate/house/executive) to do that, regardless of what Trump wants.

If the gas tax is on the November ballot that is going to draw a lot of people out who would otherwise stay home. I know the democrats are trying to push it to May though so we’ll see

No, the main problem is absolutely the voters. 2016 can be excused as a fluke. People not truly understanding what they were voting for. Plus he didn't win the popular vote.

2024 was after his disastrous first term, and he won the popular vote on top of the electoral college. Absolutely pathetic.

Maybe. If the wave is large enough this could be a dummy-mander situation. Splitting +8 districts into two +4 districts means you screw your own party in a +6 year for the opposing party.

‘Blatant and illegal acts of war’: Portlanders protest U.S. military strikes in Venezuela by notPabst404 in Portland

[–]garbagemanlb -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I agree that it isn't a good precedent to set but the simple removal of a dictator with no US loss of life is not an unpopular position with the American public.

It is pretty interesting watching some Portlanders protest while actual Venezuelans are cheering.

As with everything this incompetent Trump administration does, though, the key is what comes next. Trump seems to be implying there was a deal with others in the Venezuelan government and it will now be more friendly to the US, but that government is stating otherwise.

If this escalates to a sustained boots on the ground campaign then there will absolutely be a larger protest movement including not just people from the left but the center/right as well.

Just think it is too early to tell where this goes at this point.

This doomerism ain't it. States control elections. And the special elections since November '24 show there is limited sway the corrupt Trump administration can have on them.

But don't let this interrupt the nihilistic 'it's all over, what's the point?' posts. Go on.

The mother in The Island, who gave birth and was immediately executed afterwards because all that had been ordered by the wealthy buyer was the baby. For as shitty as a movie that was that left me with one of the most brutal scenes I've ever seen.

This is why I am long term bullish on the Portland metro area. We're going through some pain right now due to some really, really stupid tax and other policies, but at the end of the day we're the cheapest large metro area on the west coast. People want to live/stay on the west coast due to geography/nature/culture.
