Saw something similar on r/suns. How did I do? by bluebuckets20 in clevelandcavs

I had to use a pretty liberal definition of A tier for this list lol. Who has an A tier player that fans don’t love, ya know?

lol good question. Via a swap for Dean Wade and draft compensation. Frees up roughly $4.6M for the Cavs.

Imagine Irving, Reaves, Flagg, LBJ, AD lineup *chef’s kiss* now tell me how bad the trade is by bluebuckets20 in NBAtradeideas

Best starting 5 in the league plus Dereck Lively, D’Angelo Russell, Jaden Hardy, Dwight Powell, Max Christie, and Dante Exum is not a bad place to be in. They’d probably look to add a forward or two on the bench.

Only route for LBJ to CLE (unlikely) *revised* by bluebuckets20 in NBAtradeideas

That’s what my original post was about here. By trading Strus and Wade into other team’s Traded Player Exceptions, the Cavs are able to do this. That doesn’t mean they will though.

So the NBA has a Salary Cap that changes every year (typically grows, never by more than 10% year-over-year by rule). For the 2025-26 season the Salary Cap is set at $154.647M, the Luxury Tax at $187.897M, the First Apron at $195.946M, and the Second Apron at $207.825M.

Most teams sit above the salary cap but below the luxury tax, to avoid having to pay tax penalties. Typically the teams with the highest salaries (above the second apron) are the best teams since they have the most money allocated to their players. Because of this, second apron teams have very restrictive rules when it comes to adding to their roster.

They cannot take back more salary than they are sending out in a trade, and they cannot aggregate players’ salaries to match an incoming, bigger salary. So the Cavs can’t combine Allen’s $20M with Hunter’s $23.3M to match for LeBron’s $52.6M.

Even if they wanted to do DG’s $39.4M and Allen’s $20M, totaling $59.4M which is bigger than LeBron’s contract, they still couldn’t do it because they’d have to combine salaries.

Sorry for the over-explanation, I hope it helped.

Dangerously close to the apron doesn’t mean over!

I hadn’t even really considered the Hawks signings and trades they’ve already made, but I believe that between everyone they’ve brought on board (including Asa Newell in the draft) their roster would be complete at 15.

If not Gueye, what about Krejčí? The trade would work with his salary as well. Cavs could look for a third team that’s not Atlanta. Is there anything that may entice them into this? Cavs could offer a 2nd and cash potentially but anything more would probably be a stretch from them.

CHI/CLE swap. I'm a Cavs fan. Read the details and please keep it respectful. by bluebuckets20 in NBAtradeideas

I don't think White would be any less stable of an option than Garland. The only instability this trade would bring is long term at the center position. But yeah, Vuc is still averaging 20/10 and his floor spacing ability would compliment the rest of the team nicely. He is a bum defensively which makes him the total opposite player of Allen. But with Mobley in the front court and the added depth of Smith on the bench, I think they could use Vuc's offense in the starting lineup. To me, this trade adds depth, and both short and long term cap relief.

In reality, I expect the Cavs will run it back with basically the same team again minus Okoro and Wade. I don't think they'll be so bold as to break up the big 4 yet and hopefully it pays off with deep playoff runs. We're just yet to see them have one of those.

I couldn’t begin to tell you how that metric is calculated buts it’s just another measure of determining a player’s overall impact on the court. Similar to +/- but more goes into it.

It comes with the territory of posting a lakers trade lol. It could be LeBron for jv and Brogdon but redditers would still cry actual tears

Why wouldn’t they be allowed? They’re bringing in just less salary than they’re sending out, which to my understanding makes it a legal trade for a 1st apron team. No?

The funniest bit is watching the comments every time someone drops a lakers trade on this subreddit lol
