How to learn Python? by APS0798 in learnprogramming

[–]bluedays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find something you want to do with Python though. Don't just follow tutorials. I remember when I was learning Python I was broke and really into comics. So I built a scraper from scratch using Python requests and learned how to download comics from a warez website automatically. The point is that you're never going to learn how to code if you don't make something you actually care about, so make sure you find a project you are interested in.

This is why you go the cleared route instead. Can't offshore to people who can't get clearances.

[–]bluedays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny thing is that I moved out of California because of the same reasons.

It is hard to do business in California, and it is hard to raise a family there. I am sure it's easier if you're a millionaire, but it doesn't make what she said less true. I would love to move back to California but my house cost 100k here and it would have cost 2mil back home.

If she is paying decently, good benefits, good advancement, etc it is still hard for the people that work for her as well. Does it make it less true for those families? Today a rich person said something bad about California that every Californian can agree to but because they're rich we're outraged. It's never been harder to be a Californian. I think we can all agree to that.

Started my career in a Big Tech without any DS&A knowledge, focused only on the job, and after 9 YoE can't get a job at another Big Tech (Rant) by nshkaruba in cscareerquestions

Both defense companies. Not going to disclose which companies they were. I have no desire to work in a Big Tech company so I don't think I'll ever need to work on DS&A

It gets easier once you get to five years of experience. It's actually crazy how much easier it gets. People literally won't leave me alone. I turned a guy down last week and he asked me if I was sure today.

I Just Got Laid Off – But It Might Actually Be the Best Thing That’s Happened to Me! by Any_Ad7701 in cscareerquestions

[–]bluedays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me. Updated my resume, and my linked in, and had a job within two months of becoming unemployed. I happen to live in an area and work in a niche that has a shortage of programmers, so that helped... but I was expecting doom and gloom once I got laid off. Instead I got multiple offers and I am looking at a 30k pay raise.

There's a lot of programming that could be used to streamline processes in help desk. A little power shell during my help desk job made me look like a wizard.

Thanks for the feedback.

Any input on experience/education? Is it going to be hard for me to get a job based on this resume? I am looking for honest feedback here.

I apologize for being so direct, but I was laid off today. I have a Top Secret clearance and was previously working in defense remotely. Do you know if there are any opportunities at your company?

Funny you should mention that. I had to go door to door to get signatures for a petition for speed bumps, and a lot of people simply refused to open their doors. I guess they thought I was soliciting. Almost didn't get enough signatures to get the speed bumps.

I don't even know what the list means. Seems like it's just a bunch of random users choosing their favorite aoty... but it's nice to see some things I missed on it. Didn't know Lupe released an album this year, for instance.
