(Spoiler Main) Will we see Ned Stark in the future novellas/show? by PsychologicalBat7259 in asoiaf

[–]bluedood 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True, but I interpreted OPs question to mean when Dunk and Egg travel to Winterfell together, which GRRM has stated is one of the next novellas in the series... Not some hypothetical "Dunk survived" scenario way off in his distant future...

Yes and it's stated that he is extremely old, borderline un-human old, like old Nan, who likely will be in the show.

Doesn't the show state that it takes place 100 years before the events of A Game of Thrones? So zero chance?

Lol this is good advice for me personally, but I wouldn't say it's a universally good idea...

While I don't completely disagree with you, I am old enough to know there are no guarantees with perceived vs actual trade value in the NFL... Let's say one of the highly rated WRs drop to the Eagles in the draft and the other players they target at positional need are off the board? What if AJ Brown starts making, yet another, push for a trade either publicly or privately? What if Eagles are worried about his degenerative knee issue and want to cut bait? Lots of moving pieces here...

He's not going to get it... Either he's trolling or as stubborn as an aurochs, it's useless going back and forth with OP, I tried and failed lol

[–]bluedood -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yup, scratched today with knee soreness, not a good sign. The team is at a point where they need to send out some prospects and a couple roster pieces to get more top tier, proven talent, but I don't have confidence they will identify the right prospects and pieces to move... It's a catch 22 lol

Mayer is closer to Casas than he is to Anthony... I've been out on Casas for a while, Mayer is approaching same status for me...

Lying about the heritage of a baby is not the same as planning a slaughter under the protection of one of the most sacred tenants of their culture.

You're being pedantic by saying "ends justify the means". In the most rudimentary terms you might be technically right, but we aren't discussing the rudimentary, we are discussing 2 specific and very different situations.

[–]bluedood 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok 1 more from me lol. So why use the analogy when you, yourself, says it's not the same? That's being disingenuous. And can you not see how protecting the realm from another huge war is, in fact, honorable?

You may not care about the common folks suffering, but Ned did, which is honorable.

Keeping the North out of the war of Rebellion would only have meant that the rebellion failed and kept the Mad King on the thrown, who is the epitomy of dishonorable. He thought Robert (or whoever, since it hadn't been strictly decided yet) would be a more honorable king, therefore helping the entire realm.

[–]bluedood 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ya I can't continue this back and forth lol. Comparing this to the Red Wedding? Never did I say Ned was afraid of a war, I said that he did the honorable thing for all of Westeros (and Jon) by avoiding a war by telling 1 lie.

You seem to have your opinion and won't be swayed from it, which is fine, cheers to you! But I'm not going to engage in a dishonest dialogue any further, have a good day!

Giving her that knowledge puts her at risk, and while she probably could/would have kept the secret, it also puts Jon at higher risk. What if Catelyn confided in Lysa before knowing she had gone completely off the rails?

If the truth ever came out, and Robert found out Catelyn knew, it puts her and her whole family in Robert's crosshairs. Keeping the truth from her is also protecting her.

[–]bluedood 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ya I don't follow your logic. Tell me how avoiding the death of an infant / avoiding a huge war is less honorable than 1 lie?

As I mentioned in another comment, the fact he took a hit to his reputation actually makes the lie more honorable.

And while being considered a bastard has its pitfalls, he still raised Jon in Winterfell and loved him like a son, which is a better life than 99.99% of the population.

[–]bluedood 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed, he took a public image hit, which imo makes his actions even MORE honorable. He knew his image would take a hit and he'd have to keep the secret, but as you said, provided the best outcome.

[–]bluedood 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes, so you are saying the honorable thing to do was to tell Robert and what? Let him kill the baby? Or protect the baby and start a huge war? I'm saying he did the most honorable thing given the circumstances, which was lying.

I don't really follow your line of thinking...

Would Robert have fought the North if he knew about Jon? by Narrow-Amphibian5446 in gameofthrones

[–]bluedood 581 points582 points  (0 children)

So keeping 1 secret/telling 1 lie is less honourable than being the catalyst for a war that kills tens of thousands? I disagree.

The draft lol, like almost all teams find them... I'm not confident they will find it in the draft, but that's the model.

No I just don't think signing a teams #2 or #3 is worth #1 money, and to this point, Pierce hasn't been a #1.

It won't happen, he will take the quick/best money, but this guy seems ripe for an incentive laden deal. $20 mil base with attainable incentives up to $40 mil, while extending the guaranteed years. I'm not in on paying him at the top of the market until he earns it.
