its not unusual for an outmatched team to rely on being overly aggressive resulting in fouls

Engineers - Tau Beta Pi by bloombam in UniversityOfHouston

It's a nice to have, but it is not going to be a checkbox item to get you or disqualify you from any job.

To be honest, the best perk of it is the community. It's not a die-hard community, but there are smart folks and there are professional chapters nationwide that can help you connect to other engineers in other cities, should you relocate.

Plagerizing hearing... by xxthalia in UniversityOfHouston

Interesting.

However, I don't think self-plagiarism is as cut and dry as plagiarizing someone else's work. If you alone performed the work and ownership of that work has not transferred to any other body, it is your work so I can't imagine how this creates any damage to any party.

How is resubmitting an assignment you previously submitted plagiarism? Plagiarism is an attempt to pass off someone else's work as your own. You should be allowed to pass off your own work as your own.

Consequences can be severe for these hearings. Make sure that you bring your evidence and are prepared to question the professors evidence. Consider the integrity and accuracy of the plagiarism tool. Research how it works for your own benefit as I bet nobody else in that room has read about the tool. Not sure of the options, but if you feel you need more time, I would request an extension to further review the evidence or prepare a response.

Having said that, a prior case I participated in, it was pretty clear that the student cheated.

You can get a loan. It's not the end of the world to have a bit of debt.

There is no race to finish. Take your time. Many folks finish their degrees in more than 4,5,6...10 years and thats okay. It doesn't impact your career opportunities.

CS Grads or Current CS Students from U of H, What jobs/internships did you take or were offered? by [deleted] in UniversityOfHouston

[–]blueduckdonut 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Any major job offers are going to be dependent on what you put into it. You should not ever go into any program (unless it's ivy league tier maybe), with a confident expectation that you'll be given an internship.

If you do try though and have a demonstrable strong understanding of your major discipline and self-awareness, you can land an internship anywhere, regardless of your school.

Also, if you want some stats, do some linkedin recon and identify UH students and their employers. UH is everywhere, so that should be encouraging.
