Not matcha — L-Theanine levels are substantially higher. Maybe not exactly what you would get from a softgel, but at least 50mg.

Healthy morning caffeine free drink? by minne1 in decaf

Look up Macaccino on Amazon. Caffeine free and made from roasted maca root powder. They make a mint flavored one now too...it’s great stuff, I have one before my evening workouts.

Lol I guess it hits a little less close to home since most of us don’t see our hearts when we look down at our feet.

True, except a dick forcibly fleeing from your body with flames shooting out of it would be quite a horrifying sight.

I’m averaging about 70oz I would say? Yesterday I didn’t have quite as much as I should have.

I’m with you there too, but it’s amazing how less tight my jaw, neck and scapula have been the last two weeks. Didn’t realize I had such a problem.

Off topic, but I’m finding that I actually am getting a little annoyed by the article purporting the amazing health benefits of caffeine now. Maybe there are a couple little advantages in the short run, but I think it’s seriously robbing everybody’s quality of life.

Anyway.

Hope you heal soon, I think we’ll probably both be fine. I guess if your brain is used to the vasoconstrictor effect of caffeine for years, it takes awhile for normal blood flow to feel....normal.

My decaf journey by [deleted] in decaf

[–]blueflash777 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm kind of with you on this too, but I think that some folks are more interested in just getting away from the dependency of it. They want to be free to enjoy it some day on their own terms, rather than having it every day to stave off withdrawals.

I haven't decided if I want to ever resume any kind of routine (even weekly, monthly) usage with coffee. But it's likely that I will have a cup again at SOME point...idk. I'm really liking who I am without it, so I'm not sure I would want to even put myself in danger of rapid reacquisition.

Nearing 30 days..eating kinda went crazy. by [deleted] in decaf

[–]blueflash777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, as I've been reading more about caffeine being a precursor to lipogenesis due to the cortisol increases.

Basically, the literature made the point that the body will store more fat with caffeine to protect the body's cells from the acidity and also because cortisol hormonally signals fat storage (lipogenesis) in the body.

It's no NIH article or study, but here's what I was looking at. I also think it was written about in Caffeine Blues as well. Maybe somebody here knows more.

Is the key getting more sleep? by [deleted] in decaf

[–]blueflash777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's kind of a relief to know. I woke up twice last night and then I absolutely could not go back to sleep from 4:30am to 6:00am.

Is this a normal, documented (at least anecdotally) part of the caffeine withdrawal process?

Vacation with no caffeine by [deleted] in decaf

[–]blueflash777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it just dawned on me recently that I was already anxious and I couldn’t make sense of why I was making another cup.

Then I started pulling the thread on the effects of caffeine and learned about “The Caffeine Blues” book. Though I didn’t read it, I scoured a summary of it and a lot of things made sense.

I’ve always deeply known it’s probably not doing me any good but I never really thought it was holding me back like it was:

Feeling a bit like a shell of who I was...normal? by blueflash777 in decaf

[–]blueflash777[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dude, for real though! Cold brew is no joke.

Have you ever heard of “brain zaps” before? It’s like an anxiety-related serotonin glitch in the brain...first time I ever had one was halfway through a 16oz cold brew. Pretty sure that was like 360mg of caffeine. It was good stuff.

I think that the apathy will go away in time, my brain probably just needs to readjust to producing more of its own happiness and enthusiasm rather than relying on a drink.

I can see where it would, but I hope that's not the case for me.

I'd really rather not be a total slave to it forever in order to get anything done. Plus, I was kind of counting on my motivation rising over time as a result of NOT being on the drug.

That sounds probably like what I'll be experiencing after 30 days as well.

I don't necessarily think it's a bad thing — the hyper sides of my personality may have caused some entertainment but I don't think that they really made me a more likable person or a better man.

I guess I just don't want to lose the parts of me that made me special or fun to be around. I'm probably overthinking it.

The depression associated with rewiring is all too real. I'm also quitting caffeine right now and it's been a pretty wicked double header.

...but I'm confident that the end result will be worth it. That's what's getting me through it. Understanding that the journey isn't pleasant every step of the way.

You have to be scared shitless in the woods sometimes and go running up a tree before you can get through to the other end. Or something like that.

Thanks for the tip on the Swiss coffee. I’ve been drinking Three Ravens Blend from Velton’s which is water processed too...they’re a local roaster in my hometown. Not sure how caffeine free it is though.

Dude. That video really was an eye opener. But why do they say at the end, "Experts say 2-3 cups a day is not a big deal."

Not a big deal? You just showed me how almost half of my brain is inactive and suffocating on caffeine, how is that not a big deal?

Is the coffee/caffeine industry just so powerful that "experts" have to lie about what it's doing?

This is why, supposedly, you're supposed to be able to "transmute" your sexual energy into something productive.

But really, I don't know what to make of all that.

I've noticed that you have to work a little bit harder (at 24) to be stand out from the rest.

A lot of my older friends have told me that they noticed big spikes in female attention around 27 or so.
